My Favourite Winter Accessories

Winter Accessories Ella Gregory

This winter my goal is to make more ambitious fashion choices, and not just fall into the trap of wearing the same old boring outfit over and over again. (When it’s freezing cold outside I have a habit of wearing skinny jeans, Uniqlo heat-teach and a chunky knit every single day, which gets unbelievably boring).

So far I’ve managed to keep a lot of variety in my A/W wardrobe, but the coldest weather hasn’t hit us yet, so there’s still time for me to slip into lazy dressing habits. And that’s why I’ve been prioritising winter accessories.

I figured if my accessories game is strong, I can easily dress up any basic “jeans + knit” outfits and make them more fashion-forward. Here are a few of the winter accessories I’m loving, right now…

Knee High Boots:

Cuban-heeled ankle boots are my go-to throughout A/W (I love my Isabel Marant ‘Dicker’ boots, which to this day remain one of my best high fashion purchases). But knee high boots make such a brilliant statement, and can really pull an outfit together.

The suede Mint Velvet boots that I’m wearing throughout this post make me feel like Serena van der Woodsen every time I put them on!

I also have a pair of over-the-knee Stuart Weitzman boots which I irresponsibly purchased on impulse a couple of years ago, after a break-up. It was a ridiculous and unnecessary use of money, but I do feel grateful for them every winter, because they’re so chic.

Phenomenal Woman Brora Scarf

Brora’s Phenomenal Woman Scarf:

This season Brora and Helena Bonham Carter have joined forces, creating two gorgeous cashmere scarves inspired by the Maya Angelo poem, Phenomenal Woman. And 10% of the proceeds from each sale will go directly to Save the Children.

The scarves don’t launch for another two weeks, but I was gifted an early edition to help spread the word, and I receive so many compliments every time I wear it. They’ll make fantastic Christmas gifts, and are the kind of items you’ll treasure forever. You can join the waitlist for the scarves here.

Mint Velvet’s Fedora:

I used to accessorise with hats all the time, throughout my teens and early twenties. And then, for some reason, I completely stopped. This is most likely because the only felt fedora I owned was black, and black completely washes me out, so I never wore it.

A few weeks ago the team at Mint Velvet kindly offered to gift me a few pieces for winter, and I picked out their grey wool fedora, because charcoal grey is much more flattering against my skintone.

The hat also comes in black and camel, so there should be a style that suits everyone. I can wait to wear it on bitterly cold, rainy days!
