I’m really enjoying this monthly obsessions post format, because it provides an opportunity to share some of my favourite style discoveries and TV/book recommendations, which might not get a proper mention, otherwise. Here are five things I can’t stop talking about, this month – from my Stutterheim raincoat to the novel I couldn’t put down…
Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie
Home Fire had been sitting at the top of my “want to read” list for such a long time. But, because of the intense subject matter, I kept putting it off. The novel won the Women’s Prize for Fiction in 2018, so I knew it would be an incredible read. I just expected it to be a long, hard slog. However, that was not the case. I raced through this book in 48 hours. It’s fast-paced, suspenseful and builds to the most incredible literary conclusion I think I’ve ever experienced. Please read it ASAP, if you haven’t already!
Earlier this summer I was approached by the Stokholm-based raincoat brand Stutterheim, and they asked whether I would like to pick out a coat from their collection. Now, I am not a raincoat kinda gal. I grew up in the city, and therefore feel like a fraud whenever I wear something “outdoorsy”. But Stutterheim’s raincoats are really chic. They have a feminine, A-line silhouette and come in a range of sophisticated colours. I opted for the green jacket and I absolutely love it! Is it wrong to wish for rain?
I’ve featured Azurina accessories on the blog and my Instagram page before. But I wanted to give the British label a proper shout-out, because it’s fast becoming one of my favourites! Azurina was started a few years ago, after its founders noticed a gap in the market for stylish, practical and affordable handbags and travel accessories. I purchased the Stockholm tote in black croc earlier this year and have been carrying it non-stop. It’s leather, fantastic quality and cost less than £100. Check out their full collection, if you’re not already a fan…
Where do I even begin when it comes to The OA? I adored the first season of the sci-fi drama, which arrived on Netflix in 2016 (and sci-fi is not usually my genre). And I watched The OA’s equally-brilliant second season earlier this month. It’s kooky (season two features a telepathic octopus) and complex, but so SO clever! It’s been announced that Netflix have cancelled the show, which, if true, is an absolute disgrace. However, there are theories the cancelation is just another part of the storyline. So meta!
Bare Minerals Hydrating Foundation Stick (*gifted)
As you know, I’m really picky about foundation. And I generally despise stick formulas, because they feel too heavy on my skin. However, earlier this summer I gave Bare Minerals’ new Complexion Rescue Hydrating Foundation Stick a go, and I’ve fallen in love with it! It’s a water-based liquid foundation in stick form (how that’s possible, I don’t really know), and it blends beautifully and provides medium coverage that doesn’t cake or feel heavy. I wear the shade Birch 1.5.
