Best in Show: Roksanda Ilincic’s London Fashion Week Beauty Look

I’ve finally been bitten by the beauty bug, and this season at London Fashion Week I spent a lot of time focusing on the hair and makeup looks shown on the runway, as well as the collections themselves. Perhaps the wet weather acted as inspiration, because many designers favoured undone wet-look hair, which wasn’t terribly inspiring. My favourite hair and makeup concept appeared at Roksanda Ilincic, where models wore simple ponytails tied with oversized grosgrain ribbons and bold black eyeliner styled into a futuristic feline flick.

The look came courtesy of Luke Hersheson and Julian Watson (using L’Oreal) and Lucia Pica from the M.A.C Pro Team. I definitely wouldn’t know where to begin if I tried to recreate the eye makeup, but it should be fairly simple to copy the Roksanda hairstyle. Just head to a haberdashery and select your ribbon. Personally I like the oversized runway look, but you might need to scale it down if you want to wear the style to the office…

And the hair and makeup wasn’t the only thing worth getting excited about at the Roksanda Ilincic Spring/Summer 2014 show. The collection was absolutely gorgeous – as you would expect – with an uplifting palette of canary yellow and zesty orange. I loved the full midi skirts which opened the show, and was also surprised at how sophisticated the colour-block dresses worn over tailored trousers looked. Let’s hope Hollywood likes this collection as much as I do, because it would look beautiful on the red carpet!
