Fall 2017 Velvet Trend

Floral print blouse by New Look | Suede ankle boots by Oliver Sweeney | Velvet dress by By Malene Birger | Greetings card by Rifle Paper Co | Button detail skinny jeans by Topshop | Velvet jacket by Marks and Spencer | Embroidered handbag by Mango | Flounce sleeve T-shirt by H&M | Asymmetric skirt by New Look

There are certain looks that get labelled a key trend every Autumn/Winter, without fail. But, because they repeatedly make a return to the spotlight, I’d say they actually deserve to be called seasonal staples. Military jackets are one such example. As is anything velvet. And – surprise, surprise – both styles are back with a vengeance for AW17…

I’ve fallen head-over-heels for Marks and Spencer’s embroidered velvet jacket, which would look fantastic with a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans and a casual tee. And I also have my eye on By Malene Birger’s velvet wrap dress. The latter was inspired by Michelle Pfeiffer’s wardrobe in Scarface, and oozes sex appeal!

Also topping my wish list this week are Oliver Sweeney’s suede ankle boots (yep, they now do a women’s collection), and New Look’s asymmetric midi skirt. Rust orange is a key colour, this season, and this skirt is a great way to tap into the trend. I’d style it with a chunky knit sweater, a leather biker jacket and heeled ankle boots. How would you wear it?
