Last Friday I had the pleasure of experiencing Errol Douglas’ Belgravia salon for a cut and colour. I’ve met Errol and his amazing team before, but this was my visit to the salon, which has such a brilliant reputation clients actually fly in from around the world for appointments!
First up I had my colour lightened with Head of Colour, Jessica Speechly. It’s hard work going from brunette to blonde (especially if you hate sitting still for ages while you have foils put in) but after discovering we have exactly the same taste in trashy TV shows (Real Housewives of New York City anyone?) the time flew by. Jessica lightened my colour, framing my face with a soft baby blonde shade and finished up with a gloss, for extra shine.
I then had a cut and blow dry with Errol Douglas. Because I’m trying to keep my hair long Errol didn’t take too much off the length, instead focusing on creating shape and volume. With a fab blow dry that gave me soft, bouncy hair I was good to do. And, although I’m not skilled enough to recreate the slick blow dry, my hair has looked noticeably thicker ever since my haircut…

What’s your favourite hair trend for A/W 2012? There will be a lot of asymmetrical cuts this A/W and with that various interpretations. I really love the elongated bob that sports a longer length at the back. Also short cuts with soft purposeful layers are stunning. All executions of this trend have directional fringes. Love!
Biggest haircare mistake people tend to make? I say this on a loop – product overload. Product is key but over use it and it’s whole purpose, particularly in aiding styling, is totally lost in weighing down and changing the texture of the hair. Good quality product with potent ingredients are really excellent value because so little is required to deliver that high end finish.
What’s the one hair product every woman should own? Morrocanoil Treatment Oil – it’s a game changer. For the industry and my clients, it’s changed the way that oil in hair is viewed and how its used. This original, flagship product is both a conditioner and hair health maintainer and the secret styling weapon. Brilliant.
What’s the one hairstyle that never dates? The quiff, everyone understands it, it’s a statement and it’s vintage. So many executions too, from the original to softer fun incarnations on both men and women (see Carey Mulligan at the Met Gala 2012).
And finally… your favourite celebrity hairstyle right now? Carey Mulligan – classic, simple with a current edge. She’s a modern day Mia Farrow with a rock n roll nod. Beautiful.

What’s your favourite colour trend for A/W 2012? I’m enjoying the reds for fall. Whether its blondes going strawberry blonde, or a brunette adding a deep copper undertone to their hair , I’m excited for the rich, luxurious looking colours.
Biggest haircare mistake people tend to make? They stop using professional product for their colour once they feel the colour has faded. It’s really important to use professional product because it is easier to maintain a colour if it hasn’t faded completely. If you begin to use non professional product it will strip out the last of the colour and when you return to the salon for a refresher the colourist has a more difficult time creating the same shade.
What’s the one hair product every woman should own? Original MorrocanOil. It’s just the best and most versatile of products from a hair treatment to a styling aid for all hair types. It gives you glossy hair whilst maintaining condition. It keeps my blondes’ hair strong and my brunettes looking healthy with shine. It delivers that luxury finish.
What’s the one hairstyle that never dates? A classic bob – chocolate brown in colour. It always has a clean, sophisticated high gloss look and looks professional and polished.
And finally… your favourite celebrity hair colour right now? I’m loving Victoria Beckham’s hair. I like that she’s kept the colour simple but fresh. I also love Blake Lively’s golden blonde. She’s toned it down from her beach blonde days to a warmer tone that gives her a glow.
