4 of the Best Places to Shop For Summer Occasion Wear

Summer Occasion Dresses Wedding Dresses Guests

We’re entering occasion dressing season, when everyone’s social calendars start to fill up with weddings, christenings, proms, office parties and other formal summer events. So now is the time to check whether wardrobe is able to cope with the demands of the next few months. If not I’ve done some research and have concluded the following four stores are the top destinations for affordable event dressing, this summer. Take a look and start shopping…

Best for Bridesmaids – ASOS

ASOS Bridesmaid Dresses Summer 2015 2

ASOS launched a collection of bridesmaids dresses this season. And, really, the only thing you can say to this news is “what took you so long?” Because the idea is genius. Instead of producing the standard bridal party shapes in a range of pastel tones, ASOS have grouped dresses into cohesive themes so that each bridesmaid can wear a slightly different look depending on her style and figure. And the best part? Prices fall between £50 to £100.

Best for Prom – Miss Selfridge

Miss Selfridge Premium Collection Summer 2015 2

Last week I popped into Miss Selfridge on Oxford Street to kill some time before meeting a friend for dinner, and I struggled to leave without purchasing a handful of embellished occasion dresses. Their Spring/Summer 2015 Premium Collection has just been released and the vintage-inspired designs are absolutely heavenly. The stock levels online are pretty low at the moment, due to high demand, so I’d suggest taking a trip to Oxford Circus if there’s something you really really want. They had a generous helping of product on the rails!

Best for Wedding Guests – Coast

Coast Spring Summer 2015

I don’t drop into Coast stores very often, but when I do I’m always impressed by their selection of occasion dresses. This season their offering is particularly strong, with catwalk-inspired feather embellishments, fitted floral shifts and sequin column gowns. Their separates are worth taking note of too – especially if you’re going to be a guest at several weddings this summer. You can mix-and-match a few key pieces so it doesn’t feel like you’re repeating yourself at every event.

Best for Destination Weddings – J.Crew

J.Crew Wedding Summer 2015

I’m sure it’s very easy to get carried away when shopping for wedding dresses and fall in love with the most expensive gowns on offer. But if you’re on a strict budget you can’t go wrong with J.Crew. Their wedding dresses range from £200 t0 £1,500, and bridesmaid dresses hover around the £250 mark. The summer 2015 collection is perfect for destination weddings – think timeless, easy-to-pack, low-key designs – and if you spend less on the dress you have more money to put towards your flights, hotel and ceremony. The menswear collection is great too. I would totally say ‘I Do’ to a hottie in a pink suit!
