Exclusive: Sophia Webster Talks Fashion Week and Flamingos

Sophia Webster

London Fashion Week starts today, and I’m ready and raring to go. There are so many shows that I’m looking forward to this season, and the smaller presentations are also set to to be fantastic. Ahead of Sophia Webster‘s Autumn/Winter 2014 unveiling on Sunday morning, I caught up with the British footwear designer to talk about the upcoming collection, her A-list fan base and the window installation she’s just created for The May Fair Hotel

Hi Sophia. Your May Fair Hotel windows look great! What inspired the installation?

The Mayfair Hotel approached me last year to design their windows for London Fashion Week, and I wanted to create something fun and bright to combat the awful February weather. I started with the idea of a traditional fashion scene – the catwalk – and decided to make the Sophia Webster brand mascot, the flamingo, the star of the show!

In your opinion, what makes London Fashion Week so special?

The street style. People in London really make an effort. It’s so inspiring to see!

Your designs have many A-list fans and look great on the red carpet. Is there anyone you’d love to see wearing a pair of your shoes at the BAFTA s or the Academy Awards?

Lupita Nyong’o wore some styles recently and looked amazing. I think she’s going to look fantastic at the Oscars and it would be great to see her in another pair of my shoes then.

What can we expect from your Autumn/Winter 2014 collection?

Beverly Hills brats are getting the a London fairytale treatment for AW14.

And finally, how do you plan to celebrate after your AW14 presentation has finished?

I’m going away to a spa next weekend. It was a wedding present I’ve not had the time to use yet! So I’ll be celebrating by relaxing.
