Cover Stars: The Best (and the Rest) of the March 2014 Issues

March 2014 Covers

The March 2014 covers have arrived, and what an amazing month it is! There’s a brand new addition to the newsstand (Net-A-Porter’s print publication, Porter), and both the biannual and monthly glossies have presented some truly wonderful covers. As always, there have been a few blips along the way, but the majority of issues this month look really fun and inviting. See them all – good and bad – right here…

This month my two favourite covers are Gisele for Porter magazine and Miley Cyrus for LOVE. This is Porter’s debut issue (the magazine has been created by the team at Net-A-Porter), and they’re off to a great start with this stunning cover. Gisele is always a winner, but she looks particularly beautiful in this shot. And, although Miley’s LOVE cover has been floating around online for a while, the issue only just hit newsstands. I think it’s easily her strongest editorial to date – she looks awesome!

The annual Vanity Fair Hollywood issue always hits newsstands in March, and this year the cover is pretty spectacular. From left to right you have: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julia Roberts, Idris Elba, George Clooney, Michael B. Jordan, Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o, Naomie Harris, Brie Larson, Chadwick Boseman, Margot Robbie, and Lea Seydoux. It’s easily one of my favourites this month.

Marie Claire UK photographed Claudia Schiffer for their latest issue, and it’s such a nice treat to see the supermodel back on the newsstand. W’s March cover, on the other hand, hasn’t been quite as popular. The bed set-up reminds me of their fabulous July 2008 cover, but sadly I think it’s been less successful this time around. I do love Miley Cyrus’ bracelets though!

ELLE UK produced a strong cover this month, featuring Lily Allen in a Miu Miu design. The glossy has failed to dazzle me in recent months, but this cover gives me hope they’re returning to their glory days. I also like the look of Lucky’s March issue. They went a little crazy with the photoshop brush – yes, that is Zoeey Deschanel – but the retro outfit is really cute and I like the overall look of the cover.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Harper’s Bazaar UK cover left me feeling confused. What possessed them to go with that horrendous hairstyle?! Unfortunately I think the entire cover is a flop, but on the opposite end of the spectrum we have Emma Watson for Wonderland magazine. It’s pretty, eye-catching a just a little bit quirky. I love it!

It sounds harsh, but I no longer find Lady Gaga that interesting and I wonder whether she’s becoming slightly irrelevant on the pop culture landscape. Her Harper’s Bazaar US cover certainly makes a statement, but it doesn’t excite me. Rihanna, on the other hand, still grabs my attention, and I’m looking forward to reading her latest US Vogue interview. The cover is a little boring, but the accompanying editorial is fantastic.

Jennifer Lopez was photographed for Glamour UK’s March issue, and the US edition has an equally strong cover, featuring Taylor Swift. Out of the two I prefer Taylor’s portrait, but I’m more excited to see J.Lo gracing the newsstand. It’s been a while since she last made an appearance.

Both Flare and ELLE US have chosen to feature up-and-coming actresses this month. Imogen Poots looks great (and a bit Emma Stone-esque) on the Canadian glossy’s cover, whilst Dakota Johnson rocks an unusual pose for ELLE. I guess this first of many major covers for the Fifty Shades of Grey star…

Glee‘s Lea Michele was photographed for Teen Vogue’s March issue, and across the Atlantic Kate Moss has guest edited her first issue of British Vogue. The supermodel styled Daria Werbowy for the cover. Do you rate her efforts?

Kristen Stewart has kept a low profile ever since the Twilight saga came to an end, but she’s back to work this month with a Marie Claire US cover. I’ve never been a massive KStew fan, but absence really does make the heart grow fonder, and I’m excited to see her latest editorial. Nicole Kidman’s InStyle US cover was also a pleasant surprise. They’ve nailed spring’s pastel trend and her bed-head hairstyle is super sexy.

Emma Watsons cover is gorgeous, my favorite of the bunch <3

Emma Watson had the best cover, I’m going to have to track down the magazine because I love it so much. The Zooey cover threw me for a loop. It would have been so much better if they’d let her look like her. She can own those clothes without photoshop changing her into another woman.

Absolutely hate the kstew cover, she looks dead in the eyes to me. They may as well have photographed a mannequin. Much as I adore Lady Gaga, she’s got the dead eyes thing going as well in her cover. A disappointment.

I totally agree re: Zooey. Although it’s worth noting her hair/fringe is different to how she usually wears it here, so that makes her look less recognisable too.
