First of all, no, I’m not getting married (although I have recently fallen in love with Friday Night Lights‘ Tim Riggins). But next week I’ll be a bridesmaid at my uncle’s wedding, and I wanted to do something nice for his fiancée, so I booked a wedding consultation at Jo Malone London to put together a scent package for their big day.
I wasn’t familiar with the concept of scented weddings, but apparently 1/3 of all brides purchase a new perfume for their wedding day. And many also select a signature fragrance for the reception – Kate Moss chose Jo Malone’s Wild Bluebell candles for her 2011 wedding, and the Royal Wedding was decked out with Orange Blossom candles.
To help couples find the perfect fragrance for their special day, all Jo Malone London boutiques offer complementary consultations, which start with a quick Q&A about the wedding (will it be traditional, modern, outdoors? Etc etc). My uncle’s wedding has a vintage air travel theme, and his fiancée Deni favours soft floral scents, like Peony & Blush Suede. So with this in mind, Danielle, one of Jo Malone’s wedding stylists, put together a few suitable fragrance combinations.
Danielle’s first suggestion – Tuberose Angelica layered with Peony & Blush Suede – instantly captured my heart, but I felt it was probably too heavy and warm for Deni’s taste. So we went back to the drawing board, and after trying a few more pairings we finally settled on a delicate mix of Peony & Blush Suede with Wild Bluebell.
Lucky for me both choices are featured in the new Bridal Lace Bottle collection, which launched this month. The beautiful lace bottles are available in three different designs (which can be customised with initials or the wedding date), and house ten popular Jo Malone colognes. It’s such a lovely way to mark the special occasion, especially with the personalisation option.
A Jo Malone barista? Nope, this is just how they prep the Body Wash Gel for hand massages!
And, finally, I asked Danielle to provide her top tips for creating a scented wedding. So if you’re a bride-to-be you can save this list to your Pinterest board for future reference. I love the idea of spritzing “thank you” notes with the wedding fragrance – it’s very Elle Woods!
To book a complimentary wedding consultation with one of Jo Malone London’s wedding stylists simply contact your local boutique. You can bring up to five guests with you, so it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon with your bridesmaids.
Did you have a signature scent at your wedding? And, if you’re a bride-to-be have you thought about fragrances for your big day yet?
