Are You Removing Your Eye Makeup Correctly?

How to Remove Eye Makeup

Did you know there’s a correct way to remove eye makeup? I had no idea, and spent years scrubbing stubborn mascara off in whatever way felt the most effective. It was only when a makeup artist intervened on a shoot a few years ago that I learnt the error of my ways. Because, it turns out the proper way to take eye makeup off at the end of the day is as follows…

Soak a cotton pad in eye makeup remover. (In my opinion, nothing beats Lancôme’s Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover. It’s gets rid of everything – even waterproof mascara.)

Gently press the cotton pad down over your eye, and hold in place for 10 seconds.

Slide the cotton pad away, and repeat the process if any makeup residue remains. And, voilà, you’re done!

Rules are sometimes made to be broken, but this definitely isn’t one of them. Scrubbing away with a makeup wipe or wash cloth might seem time efficient, but it can damage the delicate skin around your eyes and cause wrinkles.

And, bonus beauty fact: The same 10 second soaking rule also applies when removing nail polish. Although that’s purely for reasons of ease and speed!

Did you know about the 10 second eye makeup removal rule? And, if not, will you start following it from now on?
