As you may remember, last December I was in the process of moving house. So instead of spending the run-up to Christmas ice skating, baking gingerbread, celebrating with friends and watching The Holiday on repeat, I was actually busy keeping tabs on workmen, building flat-pack furniture and making repeat visits to IKEA. So, as you can imagine, the festive buzz skipped me entirely.
But, aside from the summer, December is actually my favourite time of year. And after missing out on most of the festivities last Christmas, I’m keen to squeeze every last drop of holiday cheer out of December 2018!
This means I’m going to be really strict about how I manage my time over the coming weeks. And I’ve teamed up with Olivia Burton (whose beautiful watches will certainly help you keep track of every hour) to share the three things that I’m going to prioritise, this Christmas…
How I’m Planning to Prioritise My Time, This Christmas
ENJOYING ALL THAT LONDON HAS TO OFFER: London is absolutely magical over Christmas (rivalled only by New York City). So, taking a cue from Carrie Bradshaw, I plan to date my city throughout the month of December. I’ve already walked down Regent Street after dark to view the Christmas lights. And last week I squeezed in a visit to Fortnum & Mason and got coffee at London’s cosy new cafe: Hideaway at Burlington Arcade (pictured throughout).
I also want to make time for ice skating at Somerset House, a festive afternoon tea, The Nutcracker ballet and a visit to the Selfridges Christmas department…
What’s on your bucket list for December?
I’m Wearing: Demi Lapis Lazuli & Gold Bracelet | 3D Bee Open End Bangle in Gold | Engravable Disc Necklace in Gold | Vintage Bow Huggie Hoop Gold & White Topaz Earrings | E Alphabet Huggie Charm Gold | Forget Me Knot Ring in Gold all by Olivia Burton | Milan boyfriend coat by Baukjen (a gift from QVC) | Boxy cardigan by Mint Velvet (gift) | Skirt and heels both ASOS from a few years ago
TAKING A PROPER BREAK FROM WORK: Although I’ve been lucky enough to travel quite a bit this year, all of my trips away have been for work. And I didn’t end up taking any holiday during 2018.
I was more than happy to work, work, work this year. But my energy levels have finally started to wane. So I’m planning to take an extended break from blogging over Christmas and into January; giving myself time to lean into my health, family and friendships. (I also have to catch up on a ton of admin and sort out my expenses forms for the year, which I’m less excited about).
EASING GENTLY INTO 2019: Last December I spent New Year’s Eve at home and dedicated the entire evening to journaling, list-making and setting my intentions for the New Year. It was honestly a complete revelation! I entered 2018 feeling positive, peaceful and in control of my own destiny.
One of the activities I did was to write down all of my goals for 2018, and by early spring I was pleasantly surprised when I realised I’d already achieved a large chunk of them. I think it’s such a brilliant way to set yourself up for a New Year, so intend to make journaling one of my annual NYE rituals.
