The Products That Support My Healthy Hair Care Routine

Healthy Hair Care Routine

I’m at a bit of a crossroads when it comes to my hair. On the one hand I want to continue colouring and heat styling as often as I do, because I feel far more “me” when I have blonde beachy waves than I ever do with my naturally brunette, poker-straight style. However, I’m also conscious of keeping my hair in good condition. And over the last few months I’ve been pushing it a bit too far…

Luckily I haven’t caused any serious damage just yet. But in an attempt to give my hair a break I recently went darker at the roots so I can extend the time I take between colour appointments. I’ve also taken a closer look at the styling products I use, and here’s a quick peek into my new healthy hair care routine:

Kerastase Aura Botanica Shampoo Conditioner

I’ve used Kérastase shampoo ever since I started colouring my hair, and recently switched to the new Aura Botanica formula. It’s sulphate, paraben and silicone free, and 97% of the ingredients come from natural origin (just 3% are preservatives).

The first time I used the shampoo I wasn’t sure if it would be cleansing enough, because after rinsing the texture of my wet hair didn’t feel as slick as usual. However, once dry, the results immediately impressed me – it leaves hair soft, hydrated and totally clean. It’s my new favourite!

I don’t ever blow dry my hair, but I do use a curling wand at least twice a week. And right now I’m trying to cut back on my heat styling addiction. So, instead, I’ve taken to adding texture by spritzing Bumble and bumble’s Surf Infusion Spray into damp hair and letting it air dry.

Surf Infusion is an update on the classic Surf Spray, and contains tropical oils which prevent that dry, crunchy feeling. Unfortunately that also means the results aren’t quite as intense, but it’s much kinder to your hair.

Ouai Treatment Masque Mask

As you know, celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin recently launched her own product range, OUAI Haircare. And the Treatment Masque is my favourite formula in the collection. I use it once a week instead of conditioner, and leave it on for 10-minutes.

Think of it like rehab for your hair. It treats day-to-day damage caused by heat-styling, UV rays and pollution, and leaves hair feeling so soft and looking insanely silky. If you’ve been struggling with badly behaved, dry or flyaway hair this will instantly sort it out!

When I do succumb to heat styling I’m being much more careful, and first spray my hair with The Shield Style Extending Spray from amika. The formula protects not just against extreme heat styling, but also UV rays, and pollution. And it’s safe for colour, keratin, and Brazilian-treated hair.

They also do a Heat Defence Serum which I really need to invest in too. The only problem is both products are so popular they’re often out of stock on Birchbox. So grab them when you can!

  1. I’ve been meaning to get myself a Kerastase hair mask forever now, but the fact I need to go all the way to Amazon to order it somehow slows this process down 😉
