There’s a New Way to Wear Stripes…

Day Tripping US Vogue

There are many reasons to love US Vogue’s fashion director, Tonne Goodman. Her minimalist personal style, the spectacular cover shoots she creates for Vogue, her no-nonsense attitude (sample quote from The September Issue, “Well, you get what you get”). The list could go on and on, but in an effort to save time let’s skip ahead to the point of this post…

The latest reason to love Tonne Goodman is her May 2014 editorial, Day Tripping, in which she presents a novel new way to wear stripes. Sasha Pivovarova skips through Barcelona on the arm of James Blake, wearing a selection of printed and heavily embellished dresses. And, more often than not, they’re layered over modish long-sleeved Breton tops.

Now, slipping a striped shirt underneath a bandeau dress or embellished shift might sound bananas, but the results are truly spectacular. Just look at that image of Sasha wearing Proenza Schouler stripes with a Peter Pilotto dress and tell me you don’t want a piece of the action. You can’t, can you? Because this look feels soooo right!

And the best part is it shouldn’t be too difficult to recreate the magic outside the pages of Vogue. Stick to form-fitting tops and take extra care when matching the necklines (there’s nothing sloppy about this look), and you’ll be good to go.

Let me know how you get on if you give this style a try! I’m off to buy yet another striped shirt…
