Beauty Boost: Fighting Dark Circles With Clinique Concealers

I’ve mentioned before how I really struggle with dark circles under my eyes. I get plenty of sleep, eat healthily (most of the time) and drink lots of water, so it’s unfortunately a heredity trait which I’m stuck with. Because I have fair skin it’s even more difficult to disguise, and I hate the feeling of caked-on concealer. There are a few products which I really rate –  M.A.C Studio Finish SPF 30 Concealer, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, and Ole Henriksen Truth is in the Eyes™ Peel – but there are also countless others that I’ve tried and had no luck with.

Clinique Concealer Dark Circles

Last week I was at a breakfast with Clinique, and when I admitted I’d never tried any of their concealers before they sent me home with just about every cover-up in their collection, hoping I’d finally find the perfect fit. Here’s what I thought…

First I tried the Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector, which is a fairly new release. The lightweight eye cream has a lovely cool feel, and as it’s tinted can be worn on its own or underneath a concealer. I obviously have been opting for the later, and am interested to see how accurate the claim it’s “proven to visibly lighten dark circles by 30% in 12 weeks” is. I’ll keep you posted…

Along with the corrector cream I’ve also been trying All About Eyes Concealer, which has a runny, liquid texture. This blends well and feels nice on the skin, but doesn’t offer enough coverage for me. The same thing can be said for the Airbrush Concealer, which is similar to YSL’s Touche Éclat. It’s great as an illuminating highlighter, but definitely isn’t strong enough to be used alone (at least not with my dark circles).

So that just leaves Even Better Concealer, which (as the name suggests) is the best of the bunch. It’s a much thicker formula than the rest, and the creamy texture offers more coverage. It applies easily with both a brush and fingers, and I don’t have to worry too much about reapplying it every few hours. The one downside is the fact it gets into all the fine lines around eyes, leaving undesirable creases. Sadly this just seems to be the way it goes with heavier concealers.

Are you a fan of Clinique’s concealers? Which are your favourites? And what are your top tips for covering dark circles?

  • Cocoachaland

    Clinique is a good product!

  • Tamara

I get the best result with MAC Studio Finish, though a good eye cream is needed as a base. Benefit’s Ooh la lift also helps sometimes.

I’m the same, dark circles dominate my face. I use the clinique corrector too, and then either Estée Lauder double wear concealer or the Collection lasting perfection concealer in the darkest bit on the inner part of the circle. And then on the outer half of the circle i use a bit of a highlighting concealer like the clinique airbrush, blended down onto top of cheekbones. It’s effort but worth it IMO!
