Do you remember reading about cleansing, toning and moisturising routines in women’s magazines when you were a teenager and thinking, Damn, that sounds so glamorous? I sure did. Which is hilarious to look back on, because I now view my daily 3-step cleanse, tone and moisturise ritual as a total chore.
But it’s a habit you have to follow if you want clear, hydrated and radiant skin. And – in case you’ve ever wondered – here’s a little look at the cleansers, toners and moisturisers I swear by. I’d love to know your favourites too, so please leave any recommendations in the comments section…
STEP #1 CLEANSE
Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water In my opinion, this is the greatest micellar water in the world. Honestly, no other formula on the market performs quite as well. It’s super gentle and easily removes every trace of makeup and dirt from your skin. I always have a bottle in my bathroom cabinet, and it works particularly well on late nights when you can’t be bothered to go through the motions of hot-cloth-cleansing. It’s suitable for all skin types – including very sensitive skin.
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm This is a cult favourite in the beauty industry, but I didn’t actually start using it until earlier this year. And now I’m hooked for life! I massage the balm onto my face at the end of every day, then rinse with warm water and a cleansing cloth to gently remove every scrap of makeup. I use this as the first step in my cleansing routine, followed by an oil cleanser.
ELEMIS Nourishing Omega-Rich Cleansing Oil Because I have oily skin and am prone to blackheads I love to use an oil cleanser (it sounds counterintuitive, but oils are often the best thing for oily skin). ELEMIS’ omega-rich formula is my absolute favourite, as it contains over 90% natural oils and always leaves my skin feeling soft and squeaky clean.
STEP #2 TONE
Estée Lauder Nutritious Micro-Algae Pore-Minimising Shake Tonic This toner is a fairly new addition to the Estée Lauder family, and it’s absolutely brilliant! The tonic contains an effective mix of algae and clay, and it works to control shine and minimise the appearance of pores. I apply it to my T-zone a few times a week (either morning or night); and after just three or four applications I noticed a difference in the size of the pores on my nose. It’s really very good!
Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Universal Daily Peel Like many women around the world, I swear by the Dr Dennis Gross daily peel pads. The individual, pre-soaked face wipes work to tackle just about every skincare concern going – from fine lines and wrinkles through to uneven skin tone, enlarged pores and breakouts. Unfortunately the pads are very pricey (that’s thanks to the impressive ingredient list). But in return they provide flawless, radiant skin.
Pixi Glow Tonic I use the Dr Dennis Gross wipes sparingly (usually on a Friday or Sunday night). So if I feel the need to apply an acid toner throughout the week I always turn to Pixi’s Glow Tonic. The formula gently exfoliates the skin – removing dirt and dead skin cells – and also brightens and tightens. If you’re curious about using an acid toner, Glow Tonic is the perfect entry-level product!
STEP #3 MOISTURISE
Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion If you struggle with breakouts, pimples or blackheads, this oil-free moisturiser is a fantastic everyday option. It’s super-lightweight, but still manages to be ridiculously hydrating. I’ve looked into the science, and apparently the hyaluronic acid “attracts and retains up to 1000 times its molecular weight in water”, which is why it’s so bloody brilliant. It’s always my go-to for spring/summer.
Beauty Pie Jeju Overnight Moisture Superinfusion You may have noticed that I’ve become a bit of a Beauty Pie fangirl, of late. And their night cream is one of the best products in their lineup. It’s quite an unusual texture – more of a balm than a traditional cream – but it sinks into the skin like a dream. The formula contains Jeju volcanic sand, which helps with spots, plus hyaluronic acid and micro-detoxifying flower stem cells. And the best part is, Beauty Pie members can purchase it for a bargain £12.28.
ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Marine Cream ELEMIS’ bestselling Pro-Collagen Marine Cream really does live up to all of the hype. And it’s been one of my personal favourites for years now. I always return to this moisturiser during autumn/winter, as it’s richer than Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion. (Once the central heating gets cranked up I need maximum hydration, because my skin can become very dehydrated). And ELEMIS have just released a limited-edition pink jar in support of Breast Cancer Care, which you can shop here.
