7 Things To Do This Weekend: The Vogue Festival and Kenzo Edition

Like many of you based in London I’ll be spending my weekend at the second annual Vogue Festival, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the Southbank Centre. If you missed out on tickets I’ll be covering everything for Coco’s Tea Party, so stay tuned for updates. And, instead, you can busy yourselves with these seven stylish activities… Enjoy!

Vogue Festival Weekend

1. Follow the Vogue Festival tweets… I’ll be at the Vogue Festival all weekend, so make sure you’re following the @cocosteaparty Twitter feed, as I’ll sharing updates constantly. This year’s speakers include Victoria Beckham, Michael Kors, Donatella Versace and Net-A-Porter founder, Natalie Massenet. If you’re attending too, make sure you tweet using the official hashtag, #VogueFestival, and copy @BritishVogue in.

2. Fill your home with fresh flowers… I’m not really that fussed about flowers, but it’s impossible to walk past Liberty in London without stopping at the flower stall. If you’re out shopping this weekend make sure you pick up a bouquet or two to decorate your home.

3. Buy a pair of barely-there sandals… If you have the urge to shop for new shoes this weekend there’s only one style you should be buying: barely-there sandals. They’re being worn by everyone, this season, from Rihanna to Jennifer Lawrence. For a guilt-free fashion fix head to ASOS, where they have an entire page dedicated to barely-there sandals. The metallic, mint green heels [pictured above] are my favourites.

4. Read Gone Girl I started reading Gillian Flynn’s thriller last weekend, and had finished it by Tuesday. It’s so good I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know. It’s about a woman who goes missing, and her husband is the main suspect. And there’s a twist – of course! Reese Witherspoon has bought the film rights and it looks as if David Fincher (The Social Network) will direct the project. So far there’s no news on who will play Nick and Amy (Reese will just act as a producer), but Jessica Chastain’s name keeps coming up on blogs and forums. Watch this space…

5. Have breakfast in bed… Breakfast in bed is the ultimate indulgence and the perfect treat for the last weekend of the month. Just try to avoid pastries, as no one wants sleep in a bed filled with croissant crumbs…

6. Watch your favourite Sex and the City episode… Sometimes the best weekends are those spent on the sofa with a marathon SATC session. Everyone has their favourite episodes (mine are A Women’s Right To Shoes, Running With Scissors and Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda) so maybe the best plan of action is to team up with your best friends and each select an episode.

7. Dress your iPad in Kenzo… Did you know Kenzo made iPad cases? Because I didn’t! But then why wouldn’t you want to dress your iPad in Kenzo tiger print?! Of couse they make them! The signature tiger T-shirts and sweaters sell out at the speed of lightning, so this is probably the next-best option. Find them at Matches for £140.

The Night Jennifer Lawrence Fell in Dior. Carrie Bradshaw Much?

The red carpet arrivals at the 2013 Academy Awards weren’t overly impressive. Jane Fonda (in Atelier Versace) and Sally Field (in Valentino) were two of my best dressed, putting the under-60′s to shame. Jessica Chastain ruined all her hard work by wearing a nude dress that looks brown in photographs and there wasn’t enough Elie Saab.  But the person everyone is talking about today – Jennifer Lawrence – got it right on the night. The 22-year-old Best Actress winner wore a strapless Christian Dior Haute Couture gown and looked absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, however, Jennifer tripped on the train of her dress when accepting the award, cementing her place in the hall of ‘memorable Oscar acceptance speeches’ forever and ever. But she’s in good company. Remember who else tripped and fell in Dior? Carrie Bradshaw!

jennifer lawrence oscar fall

Carrie’s fall took place in Paris and involved a wet umbrella, marble floor and an unimpressed crowd of French shoppers. Jennifer’s fall took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, was followed by an attempted-rescue from Hugh Jackman and was witnessed by an audience of A-list actors. Which is more embarrassing? Let’s take a look…

Here’s Carrie’s fall:

And here’s Jennifer’s fall:

I think Jennifer Lawrence handled her Oscar fall brilliantly, and it only adds to her charm. It would have been perfect if she started her acceptance speech with the line “I fell. I fell in Dior.” But you can’t have everything…

Are you pleased that Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar? Did you like her red carpet look?

Hide & Chic: The October 2012 Edition

It’s the first day of October, which means we’ve got a whole host of new exhibitions, product launches, trends and must-watch TV shows coming our way. Keep up-to-date with everything that’s going on this month with October’s Hide & Chic edit. You’ll be pleased to know it doesn’t feature anything Halloween related, which is quite an achievement…
Chanel’s Little Black Jacket: The Little Black Jacket exhibition arrives in London on October 12th. A selection of Karl Lagerfeld’s favourite ladies (including Carine, SJP, Elle Fanning and Alexa Chung) posed for exhibition, so hurry down to the Saatchi gallery fast. It’s only in town for three weeks!
The “Style to Savour” Campaign at Harrods: Today Harrods launch their exciting new online campaign, Style to Savour. Famed for their food halls, the iconic department store has fused fashion and food together for the month of October. Check out their stunning fashion images, photographed in Ladurée and their other world-class eateries, at harrods.com from today.
The Baroque Trend: The look started on the runways at Balmain and Dolce & Gabbana, and now the great British high street is getting in on the baroque trend. Topshop is currently leading the way, with their body-con printed dress, which gives you the Balmain look for under £40!

Tommy Hilfiger for Breast Health International: Tommy Hilfiger is offering his support to Breast Health International (BHI), with a limited-edition charity tote bag. The navy blue and red handbag goes on sale this month, and £100 from each purchase (the bag retails at £225) will be donated to BHI’s Fund for Living. Look out for the accompanying campaign, which stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and was photographed by Drew Barrymore.
Monica Vinader’s Scarves: You won’t struggle to spot Monica Vinader‘s designs on the front row at fashion week, and October sees the launch of jewellery designer’s scarf collection. The cotton and silk printed scarves will be available to buy in the Scarf Room at Liberty, and in Monica’s South Molton street store, later this month. Prices start at £80.
Hide… Sex and the City: Yep, it’s time to ditch those DVD boxsets, ladies. It’s all about Lena Dunham’s Girls now, which makes it’s UK debut on Sky Atlantic, in mid-October. There’s less Manolo Blahnik (in fact, there aren’t any Manolos) but it’s refreshingly real and will win you over in no time at all.

Are you excited about all of the upcoming October 2012 launches? Do you plan to watch Girls? And will you visit the Chanel Little Black Jacket exhibition?

Sarah Jessica Parker on Carrie’s Fendi Baguette Bag

“Having the Fendi Baguette was a very big deal, and the gateway to everything else. It really opened the floodgates and influenced the storyline – especially Carrie’s habit of spending more money on fashion than her home. The Baguette became a staple of Carrie’s wardrobe and character.” – SJP writes in Fendi Baguette

In Search of Mary Jane Heels, Carrie Bradshaw Style

No prizes for guessing the pop-cultural reference point for this post. It can only be Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City season four episode 17. The “urban shoe myth” Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes are suddenly looking so spot on again, and I’m not the only one who thinks so. Ten years after “A Vogue Idea” first aired (can you believe it’s been so long?) designers are championing Mary Jane heels again.

Both Marc Jacobs and Stuart Weitzman have great updates on the pointed-toe Mary Jane pump this season, and it’s the perfect time to invest as the high street hasn’t quite caught on yet. Although I doubt it will be long until they do… And if you’re after the real deal head to Bergdorf Goodman who currently have Manolo Blahnik’s Campari Mary Jane pumps in stock. Such a classic!

SHOP: Marc Jacobs silver Mary Jane pumps at MyTheresa; Marc Jacobs red Mary Jane pumps at Net-A-Porter; Stuart Weitzman pink Mary Jane pumps at Shopbop

And in case you need reminding, here’s Carrie Bradshaw coming face-to-face with the Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes. I think it’s time to dig out my SATC season four box-set again…

Are you in the mood for Mary Jane pumps again? Which S/S 2012 design is your favourite?

This Weekend I Will Be…

… Dipping into a massive pile of fashion magazines
… Drinking lots of coffee and eating far too much cake
… Wearing my gorgeous autumnal Elizabeth and James shirt – thanks E&J!
… Watching SATC re-runs for wardrobe inspiration
… Hiding from the cold in my Miss Selfridge faux-fur coat
… Painting my nails red Guy Bourdin style | source
And watching The X Factor, of course. What are your plans for the weekend?
