The Rose Byrne Hair Diaries: From the ‘Anna Wintour’ to Beachy Waves

Late last year I discovered the American legal thriller Damages. Somehow the show completely passed me by when it began in 2007, but I became completely addicted and watched all five seasons in quick succession. If you like The Good Wife and enjoyed the first series of Revenge you need to order the boxset/start watching the show on Netflix asap. You won’t regret it. Especially as it stars Rose Byrne, my latest girl crush. The Australian actress has always been on my radar when it comes to the red carpet (she looks great in Marc Jacobs), but I never noticed how fabulous her hair is until I got hooked on Damages. Whether it’s a relaxed up-do, bold waves or “the Anna Wintour”, Rose always rocks it…

I now can’t wait to see Rose Byrne in I Give It a Year. Hopefully she’ll provide even more hair inspiration. Are you a fan of Rose Byrne? Do you like her style? And which of the above hairstyles is your favourite?

The SAG Awards 2012: The Women in White

The SAG awards took place last night and although I wasn’t overly inspired by the red carpet dresses I did like the shimmering white colour trend that was particularly prominent. Zoe Saldana wore a Givenchy Haute Couture piece straight from Paris, which I loved. The button detailing around the hemline is simply beautiful. It was an elegant and sophisticated choice.
Bridesmaids actress Rose Byrne went for a much more rebellious option, rocking a heavily embroidered Elie Saab jumpsuit from the Haute Couture archive. I’m sure this look won’t be to everyone’s taste, as jumpsuits tend to split opinion, but I think Rose pulled off this risky piece magnificently. Tilda Swinton and Julianna Margulies also looked stunning in light and luminous gowns. And in contrast, Emma Stone’s black McQueen was another personal favourite.
Which looks stood out for you at last night’s SAG awards? Were you a fan of Rose’s bold red carpet choice, or did it fail to work for you?

Mulberry Heads to New York for Another Party

As you know, Mulberry turned 40 this year, and I’ve lost count of the number of birthday parties they’ve held so far. Mulberry are definitely the Paris Hilton of fashion – at least, as far as knowing how to party is concerned. Last night they hosted another birthday party in New York, which also coincided with the opening of their new US flagship store, on Spring Street. Naturally the guest list was amazing.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Alexa Chung, Rose Byrne, Solange Knowles and Anna Dello Russo bought the fashion-factor, whilst man-of-the-moment, Alexander Skarsgard, acted as the evening’s eye-candy. Mulberry’s guests were treated to cheese and tomato toasties and fairy cakes – and this kind of detail fascinates me. Imagine Anna Dello Russo walking around the dance floor with a cheese and tomato toastie!

Would You Wear Your Hair in a Bow?

I don’t follow Vogue Australia, but this morning I came across their July 2010 cover with Rose Byrne, and it caught my eye. Not only does Rose have her hair tied into a bow on the cover, but she wears this hairstyle throughout the editorial.
Now I adore Vogue’s styling of Rose (why doesn’t she get more attention from the glossies? And why don’t I read Vogue Australia?) but I really hate this hairstyle. It reminds me of shih tzu show-dogs, and if you don’t believe me check out this pooch with a very similar hairstyle style. It’s a look I’d describe as Crufts Chic, but in my opinion, it should be kept far away from Lanvin and Prada.
It’s not just Vogue playing around with this style though. Being as over-the-top as it is Lady Gaga obviously loves the look, and has been tying her hair into a bow for over a year. Here she is wearing wearing the hair bow in January 2009. Always an early adopter.

I don’t like this look on anyone, but Gaga definitely does a better job of it than Rose -  because you expect craziness from Lady G. Paris Hilton is also a fan of the bow hairstyle, and the result isn’t as bad as you would expect.

I admire those willing to give this look a go, but for me it is still a style no-no. What do you think of the hair bow? Would you give it a go?

On the Red Carpet With: Rose Byrne

This year I have fallen in love with Australian actress Rose Byrne’s style. Best known for her roles in Damages (which I haven’t seen) and movie Adam (which I want to see) she only really got my attention this year. The yellow Marc Jacobs dress she wore to the Met Gala this May is one of my favourite red carpet moments of the year, and I’m still loving the Christian Cota she wore to the Adam premiere.
She is definitely one to keep an eye on.

For the Emmy awards this year Rose wore her hair straight for a change and a romantic pink Valentino. She was rocking pink feathers last year in a Christian Cota Fall 2008 dress, and looking very Emmy Rossum, no?

Rose looked amazing in this white Clavin Klein Spring 2009 dress. I love how she takes the minimalistic Clavin look and mixes it with glamorous hair.

While Rose looks great in minimal designs she can also pull of cutesy prom styles. Like this fabulous floral Marc Jacobs Resort 2010 dress that she wore to the MTV Video awards this summer.

I adore Rose’s long-sleeved silver dress. Worn with black pumps, minimal makeup and her perfectly blown-out hair she looks so chic.

My favourite ever Rose looks have to be this amazing lace Christian Cota dress – the shoulders are gorgeous – and the bright yellow Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 dress that she wore to this years Met Ball.

Do you have a style crush on Rose too? And who do you think has had a great red carpet record this year?
