Shopping For: An Update on the Colour Blocking Rules

Shopping For: Colour Blocking
Shop The Edit: 1. Colour block shirt from Uniqlo // 2. Tomato red mid-heels from ASOS // 3. Blue nail polish by Nails Inc // 4. Stripe and spot jumper from Topshop // 5. Silk colour block dress by Roksanda Ilincic // 6. Aztec print trousers by MSGM // 7. Pleated skirt by Carven // 8. Leather bowling bag by Clare Vivier

Colour blocking is still a fashion favourite, and for Spring/Summer 2013 designers are focusing on a single colour palette: tangerine, cobalt, black, red and white. Roksanda Ilincic confidently mixed the shades at her London show, presenting a hit collection of bold, patchwork dresses. Centre your look around Roksanda’s slick shift dress [above], or pull together a selection of standout separates for a modern take on the trend. My favourites include Uniqlo’s neat little shirt, MSGM’s printed trousers and Clare Vivier’s red bowler bag. Are you still a fan of colour blocking? How do you wear the look?

Clothes I Want To Wear: Roksanda Ilincic Pre Fall 2013

Roksanda Ilincic’s Pre Fall 2013 collection is so playful and fun. I love the dramatically oversized proportions, the colour palette bursting with acidic brights and those funny little mortar board hats. On paper the collection sounds totally crazy, but somehow it comes together perfectly, creating a line-up of looks I’d be happy to wear. Take a look at my favourites:

Roksanda Ilincic is one London’s brightest fashion talents, and I’d love to see one (or more) of her designs on the red carpet at the BAFTAs on February 10th. Jessica Chastain would be my ideal choice, but I wouldn’t complain if Elizabeth Olsen (nominated for the Rising Star Award), Anne Hathway or Andrea Riseborough had a Roksanda moment.

Trend Driven: The Resort 2013 Collections Are All White

Over the next few weeks the Resort 2013 collections (also known as Cruise and Pre Spring – how many names does a season need?) will start to land in stores, and you can expect to see a lot of white. It’s the shade of the season, appearing in a host of different styles – urban at Alexander Wang, sharp and sleek at McQueen, romantic and feminine at Nina Ricci, bold and modern at Roksanda Ilincic… The list goes on and on, and there are no rules. Simply pick a look that suits your mood and wear from head-to-toe.

Matches Launches Sweet Chari-Tees with Brit Designers

As you’re probably well aware, British fashion boutique Matches have teamed up with some of London’s top designers for a special charity project. The “Chari-Tess” collection includes eight limited-edition T-shirt designs which will raise funds for The Disposed Fund, a charity which helps tackle poverty in London.

The lineup of designers involved is amazing – Mary Katrantzou, Roksanda Ilincic, Jonathan Saunders, JW Anderson, Richard Nicoll, Holly Fulton, Erdem and illustrator “Herself” – so the £60 T-shirts won’t hang around for long. The collection officially went on sale today, so snap up your favourite design while you can!

Roksanda Ilincic’s frilly design is my favourite. I just wish I looked good in yellow…

Roksanda Ilincic Mixes Sporty with Sophistication

Victoria Beckham isn’t the only designer continuing to mix sportswear with ladylike evening looks for Autumn/Winter 2012. Roksanda Ilincic skillfully balanced baggy sweatshirts with elegant midi-skirts and paired hooded sports jackets with bright column dresses in her playfully chic Fall collection.

Even the handbags got a sporty makeover, with models clutching a variety of duffle bags, made in jewel-toned silks, bright checks and crushed velvets. Something tells me you wouldn’t want to keep your gym kit and grubby trainers in these babies…

Although there was a definite lack of red carpet gowns in Roksanda’s runway collection I’m still crossing my fingers we see some of the Autumn/Winter cocktail dresses at Hollywood events in the near future. Ginnifer Goodwin needs another Roksanda moment, and I’d also love to see Sarah Jessica Parker, Emily Blunt, Brooklyn Decker and Julianna Margulies give Roksanda Ilincic a whirl. Do you think they’d suit the label?

First Look: Roksanda Ilincic For Matches

Did you all watch The X Factor last night? If so you’ll probably be obsessed with the monochrome look that Florence Welch rocked for her exclusive performance. The outfit in question was custom made Roksanda Ilincic and today there is even more exciting Roksanda news, as her exclusive collection of dresses for Matches has been unveiled. The five cocktail dresses will hit Matches stores next Monday and are sure to be a big hit over party season.
“I think making a great exit is every bit as important as making a great entrance,” Roksanda revealed. “I love to make feature of the back of dresses, it is part of viewing a design in 360 degrees.”
The draped back of the aqua dress, left, is certainly eye-catching. Along with the purple dress, below right, it’s my favourite in the capsule-collection. Here’s a look at all five dresses.
