Shopping For: £3,000 Jackets and Other Fashion Favourites

spring 2013 urban style topshop marni pink beanie
Shop The Edit: 1. Marni embellished top // 2. ASOS beanie hat // 3. Topshop ripped skinny jeans // 4. Tibi silk tank top // 5. Jason Wu leather jacket // 6. Sekonda steel watch // 7. ASOS pointed toe heels

This week I fell in love with a £3,000 Jason Wu leather jacket. It will never be mine (unless I win the lottery – which would be a miracle in itself, seeing as I never buy lottery tickets), but it’s made it’s way onto my Spring 2013 wishlist anyway. It would be a shame to exclude something so beautiful… I’m also crushing over more realistic buys, like the ASOS pointed pumps and Topshop’s skinny ripped jeans. Pair them with the £3,000 jacket and you’ve got a seriously hot high-low fashion mix! What’s on your wishlist this week? Which of the above items are your favourite buys?

How to Wear Pink Without Looking Like a Barbie Doll

Pink has been having a colour moment since the beginning of the year. It started with the rose cocoon coat in Raf Simons’ final collection at Jil Sander, then came Anna Wintour’s rumoured request that all Vogue editors wear pink to the Met Gala, and since then a host of stylish women – from Cameron Diaz through to Kate Middleton – have slipped into pink designs. So how can you get in on the act without falling into the dreaded Barbie doll trap? Here are three outfit suggestions for work, play and weekends:

Work: Cream vest with gold trim by Topshop // Pink lipstick by Paul & Joe // Vintage style croc watch by ASOS // Tweed pants by 3.1 Phillip Lim // Scarf by Lily & Lionel Breakthrough Breast Cancer // Pink pumps by Pour La Victoire Play: Silk and chiffon dress by Tibi // Star necklace by People Tree // Spike earrings by Pieces // Glitter nail polish by Louise Gray at Topshop // Wedge heels by Balenciaga // Bag bag by Overture Judith Leiber Chill: Pink wool jacket by Marni // Glitter sunglasses by Miu Miu // Skinny jeans by Topshop // Leather gloves by Topshop // Leopard trainers by River Island… and that’s a wrap!

This post was created to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month. UGG Australia set me the challenge to feature the colour pink on Coco’s Tea Party (not too difficult) and in return they will donate £500 to The Haven Breast Cancer Charity. UGG are also supporting the cause with their Pink Ribbon collection

Have you started wearing pink more often? How are you supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Six of the Best… Embellished Collars

Fashion’s current love for statement collars doesn’t seem to be waning (blame Karl Lagerfeld if you’re not a fan of this trend), but for Autumn/Winter 2012 they’ve been given a decadent makeover, with heavy embellishments and eye-catching textures. Marni and KARL are both championing the look with floral paillettes, sparkling crystals, lace trims and delicate beading; whilst Topshop and ASOS remain hot on their heels with plenty of affordable options. Pair your embellished collars with cosy navy sweaters and A-line skirts. Simple, yet super chic!

Do you plan to wear embellished collars this season? Which designs are your favourites?

The Midweek Shopping List: Metallics and Zebra Print

This week I’m crushing on Topshop’s pale blue metallic skinny jeans, which would look great with a pair of printed brogues or Michael Kors’ zebra print knit. I’m also loving Marni’s black and gold butterfly necklace. Usually I avoid anything involving butterflies as I’m not Mariah Carey, but the tassel made me fall for this particular design. What’s on your wishlist this week?

It’s Time to Wear Your Coat Like it’s a Dress

Earlier in the week Alexa Chung was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to promote her latest TV project, 24 Hour Catwalk. Alexa’s interview was actually pretty good (you can watch it HERE) and I forgot how much I like her when she’s just chatting away. But obviously I was more interested the silver Marc Jacobs spring 2012 coat, which she was wearing as a dress, than hearing about her new show.

Wearing your coat as if it’s a dress is the new hot thing. It was seen all over the Spring Summer 2012 runways and now that Alexa’s also rocking the look it really will explode into “mega-trend” status. But you can’t just wear any coat as a dress. Oh no. It has to be an ultra-fashion coat; so look for print, satins and silks, embellishment, bright colours, feathers, lace, brocade and an interesting mix textures.

Prada, Giambattista Valli, Marni, Nina Ricci, Marc Jacobs, Christopher Kane and Jil Sander should act as your coat dress inspiration. Either wear with black tights, like Alexa, or brave a bare leg.

The coat dress doesn’t come cheap though. I haven’t been able to find any high street versions and when they do inevitably arrive in store I doubt the quality will be anything to shout about. I’d suggest looking in vintage stores and on The Outnet for a more affordable option (you can guarantee the Prada and Marc Jacobs catwalk looks will be way over £1,000). I was really impressed by the amount of statement coats available at The Outnet – the prices still aren’t cheap but the discounts are high. I’m particularly keen on the M Missoni number below.
Are you a fan of this Spring Summer 2012 trend? Will you be wearing your coat as a dress come spring?
