Style Star: Lauren Hutton {Get The Look}

This week I’m introducing a brand new feature to Coco’s Tea Party, which celebrates inspirational fashion icons. First up is one of my personal style pin-ups, Lauren Hutton. The model and actress is the queen of fuss-free chic. In the 1970′s her natural beauty earned her the title “the fresh American face of fashion” and she’s covered Vogue more than 25 times! Lauren’s signature look consists of tailored separates, luxurious silk shirts and super cool hats. Now, at 69, Lauren is a constant inspiration for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at The Row and still tops the Best Dressed lists when she hits the red carpet. Get a dose of Lauren Hutton style with the fabulous fashion buys below…

Shopping For: Polka Dots, Charity T-Shirts and Chic Stationary

shopping polka dot marc jacobs comic relief t-shirt
Shop The Edit: Blue crystal necklace by Adia Kibur // Scotty dog bowler bag by ASOS // Kate Moss vest by Stella McCartney for Comic Relief // Polka dot jeans by Marc by Marc Jacobs // Heart knit jumper by J.W. Anderson for Topshop // Kitten slipper shoes by Marc by Marc Jacobs // Fountain pen stationery by Mount Street Printers

This week I’m crazy about polka dots. The obsession started when I spotted the distressed Marc by Marc Jacobs jeans, which are so perfect I would probably wear them with absolutely everything if they made it into my wardrobe. The second must-have dotty item is this year’s Comic Relief T-shirt, which was designed by Stella McCartney. Corinne Day’s portrait of Miss Moss (which was taken for The Face in 1991) has been splattered with red dots, and is the perfect item to layer up on weekends. You can find all the Comic Relief charity T-shirt designs HERE. Please remember to buy a T-shirt and support the brilliant cause on Red Nose Day!

Do you have your Comic Relief tee yet? Which design did you go for? And what’s on your wishlist this week?

Cash, Credit, Debit… The Black and White Stripe Dress

As I’m sure you’re all aware, the sixties are a big fashion influence this season. Marc Jacobs was inspired by mod style, sending a parade of bold black and white lines down his New York runway; which subsequently kicked off one of Spring 2013′s biggest trends. Black and white stripes are now absolutely everywhere, and the quickest (and easiest) way to get the look into your wardrobe is with a simple T-shirt dress. Avoid the obvious Breton-stripe options, however, and go for a design that mixes both horizontal and vertical stripes instead. Here are three of the best options, all available online now:

STRIPE DRESS MARC BY MARC JACOBS ASOS ELLA MOSS
Cash: Motel smock dress, £45 and $78 USA
Credit: Marc by Marc Jacobs striped dress, £385 and $398 USA
Debit: Ella Moss jersey dress, £117 or $178 USA

Wear your black and white striped dress one of two ways: either in homage to Edie Sedgwick – with black tights, flat pointed-toe pumps and lashings of liquid eyeliner – or layer with crystal jewellery, a bright leather jacket and studded ankle boots. The choice is totally up to you…

Shopping For: Winter Metallics Inspired by Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne picked up the award for Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards, earlier in the week, and chose a metallic green Burberry Prorsum dress to mark the occasion. I love metallics and it’s the perfect time to invest in something shiny, as the look is set to be a huge trend in Spring ’13. The Burberry runway was packed with futuristic metallics, in a range of bright colours, and there are plenty of stylish, winter-appropriate, options available right now.

Markus Lupfer’s slimming brocade dress is my top tip for Christmas parties, and JBrand’s silver skinny jeans will see you through into SS13. Just remember to follow Cara’s lead, and keep the rest of your look simple. One metallic at a time is more than enough! Are you a fan of this trend? Will you wear the look?

How to Wear Cashmere Knits in the Summer

It’s coming up to July and it’s still cold in London. Lightweight cashmere knits seem like the smart solution, but my collection only includes black and navy — perfect for winter but not so desirable in June. I’ve searched around for pretty pastel alternatives and discovered organic luxury knitwear brand, Muriee. Their cashmere is a tad pricey, so you wouldn’t bulk buy their knits, but the lemon and grey design, below, is definitely a worthy investment. Don’t you think?
Stick to a light colour palette when wearing the Muriee sweater. A pair of stone grey jeans will make a nice change from white (and also save you from any Elizabeth Hurley comparisons), while Marc Jacobs’ mouse flats with add a playful edge to your look.
Are cashmere knits reappearing in your wardrobe, this summer? How do you style them?
