Kate Middleton’s Style is Analysed in British Vogue’s “Katepedia” Article

UK Vogue February 2013 Kate Middleton feature

The Duchess of Cambridge still hasn’t sat for a magazine cover (much, I imagine, to every fashion editor’s dismay), but that hasn’t stopped an outpouring of Kate Middleton features. British Vogue celebrate her style evolution in the February 2013 issue with a brilliantly titled article, Katepedia: A Study In Royal Style, and it’s a great read!

Fashion journalist, Lisa Armstrong, was set the mighty task of analysing Kate’s style for the fashion bible, and the eight-page feature offers up a lot of information. My favourite detail, though, is the fact Kate apparently has short legs. I can’t say I’ve ever noticed, but according to an anonymous designer she’s mastered the art of eleongating her pins:

“Pre-pregnancy, she never failed to accentuate her tiny waist. Although as one (anonymous) designer points out, she favours a slightly raised waist because – they claim – she has a long body and relatively short legs. What? Short legs? Kate Middleton? I looked and looked again. And blow me down, the designer’s absolutely right – her dresses all sit a centimetre or two above her natural waist. I can’t vouch for the long body. That’s how successful the raised-waist tactic is.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m now off to study pictures of Kate to see if this is true. And I will be using this trick myself if it is! I have a long body and “relatively short legs” too, so if it works for the future queen I’m sure it will work for me…

Read the full feature in British Vogue’s February 2013 issue, on newsstands Wednesday January 9th. And FYI: the Kate Middleton lookalike on the cover is model Kati Nescher.

Kate Middleton and Jessica Chastain Cover Vanity Fair

Vanity Fair’s September 2012 issue is covered by two very stylish ladies: Kate Middleton and Jessica Chastain. The Help actress posed for Vanity Fair‘s subscriber cover and the Duchess of Cambridge appears on the newsstand edition. Personally I much prefer Jessica’s cover, but there’s no way she’d be able to sell as many copies as Kate Middleton, aka “Kate the Great”.
The September 2012 style issue features Vanity Fair’s International Best-Dressed list, which Jessica and Kate both appear on. Jay-Z, Diane Kruger, Prince Harry and Matt Lauer (really?) also reportedly made the cut, so now I can’t wait to see the list in full…

My personal favourite is the red, white and navy print dress, but if it’s Kate’s look your after you can’t go wrong with the bright blue design. It’s almost identical to her engagement outfit.

Does Kate Middleton Influence Your Style?

According to this week’s Grazia the average British woman has spent £250 to look like Kate Middleton. Pretty much everything Kate’s photographed in sells out in an instant (see her blue Issa dress and Burberry trench coat) and her influence has reportedly brought in a total of £1 billion to the British economy. Those are some pretty impressive stats if true. Well done Kate!
The only thing is I can’t think of a single woman I know who is genuinely influenced by Kate’s style. I think the Duchess of Cambridge dresses beautifully, but so far I have spent £0 trying to “Get The Kate Look”. Are you influenced by Kate’s style? Have you ever bought something she’s worn? What are your thoughts on this story?

Kate Middleton Covers Tatler For a Second Time, But They’ve Still Never Officially Photographed Her

Every fashion magazine in the world wants Kate Middleton on their cover. Alexandra Shulman has failed to get her, so has Anna Wintour. But the Duchess of Cambridge has appeared on the cover of Tatler twice. How have they managed to shoot her before British and US Vogue, you may wonder. The answer: they haven’t.

Tatler’s February 2011 issue featured four (pretty creepy) Andy Warhol style photographs of Kate, taken at the official engagement announcement, and she also covers their February 2012 issue. This time the cover looks like an editorial shot, but it is actually just another heavily photoshopped image from Getty photographer, Chris Jackson.

Pippa Middleton also appeared on Tatler’s cover back in August 2011. Again it was another edited paparazzi shot.

Does it bother you then Tatler have never officially photographed the Middletons? Or are you just happy to see them on the cover, wherever the images came from?

The Best of 2011: Kate’s McQueen Wedding Dress

I was in New York for the Royal Wedding. Which meant two things. Firstly, that I missed the initial “Ooh it’s a McQueen dress” excitement and, secondly, that I didn’t realise Pippa Middleton’s bottom was an overnight phenomenon until cab drivers started mentioning it.

Because of the time difference I missed all of the church arrivals and the hoopla that came before the ceremony, so when I found this video of Kate’s dress being revealed for the first time it was a lovely treat. I love that Grazia magazine’s Style Director, Paul Reed, shouts “YAY!” as soon as the BBC confirm it’s a McQueen dress.

Was the Royal Wedding one of your highlights of 2011?
