Hide & Chic: The February 2013 Edition

February Hide and Chic Mulberry Willow

Happy February 1st! It may be the shortest month of the year, but February is jam-packed with exciting fashion news. You can expect cool collaborations (hello GOLDSIGN & J.Crew), new product launches and plenty of drama centred around fashion week. Here’s a run-down of what’s hot, and what’s not, this month…

Beyoncé’s US Vogue Cover: Prepare for a Beyoncé takeover, this month, as the 31-year-old superstar is set to cover US Vogue’s March issue (on newsstands in February), perform at the Super Bowl, release her HBO documentary and also has a new album in the works. If you’re not a fan of the Single Ladies singer now would be a good time to go into hiding!

The Karl Lagerfeld Keychain: Have you ever wanted to carry Karl Lagerfeld around with you in your handbag? No? Well never mind. Because all that’s important here is the fact that now you can. The KARL plexiglass keychain is rather eye-watering £119, but I guess a premium price is to be expected from Chanel’s iconic designer…

Fashion Week/Month: The Autumn/Winter 2013 shows kick off in New York on February 7th, and then it’s over to London, Milan and Paris. It will be a busy season for Alexander Wang, who will show his debut collection for Balenciaga.

The Mulberry ‘Willow’ Bag: My all-time favourite Mulberry handbag finally hits stores in mid-February. The ‘Willow’ – a structured tote with a genius zip-detached envelope clutch – will be exclusive to Mulberry boutiques, and I’m sure there will be a stampede of women waiting to get their hands on the design. GOLDSIGN X J.Crew: This month sees the launch of a very special collaboration. GOLDSIGN have joined forces with American retail-giant, J.Crew, to create a limited-edition denim collection. Three uber-cool styles have been created: a high-waisted jean, a classic slim-leg 5-pocket design and a sexy denim pencil skirt  Make sure you log on to jcrew.com on February 27th to snap up your favourite piece.

Love Hearts: You can’t do a February round-up and not include Valentine’s Day, can you? So here’s my pick of best buys for February 14th… YSL have updated their False Lash Effect mascara with a Swarovski crystal heart (£23.50); Hotel Chocolat have a delicious-looking range of Valentine’s chocolates (starting from £1.95); and Vivienne Westwood’s heart brooch watch will look great year-round (£199 at ASOS).

Hide… Dry and dull complexions: Winter weather can wreak havoc on your skin, but Garnier’s new Moisture Match range is here to help. There are five moisturisers in the collection, covering a variety of skin complaints – from very dry skin through to dull complexions. And at just £5.99 they’re the perfect beauty pick-me-up.

Shopping For: Cartoon Brights and Superhero Styles

Who wasn’t completely obsessed with 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Pop art themed pre-fall 2012 collection? It kicked off a fashion-wide trend for bold cartoon colours and comic book catchphrases, and now it’s time to add a splash of superhero power to your wardrobe, if you haven’t done so already. Topshop have just jumped onto the trend with their “Kapow” sweatshirt, which would look great with KARL’s orange pleated mini and the black and gold high-top sneakers from ASOS. Accessorise with bright plastic accessories (how cute are River Island’s Pac-Man earrings?) and you’re good to go!

Are you enjoying fashion’s current obsession with comic book style? Have you been rocking this trend?

Karl Lagerfeld on Keira Knightley’s Wedding Dress

Keira Knightley is engaged to the Klaxons’ James Righton. She is also the face of Chanel‘s Coco Mademoiselle fragrance. This combination has obviously left everyone speculating about whether or not Karl Lagerfeld will design her wedding dress. But according to Karl that might not be the best idea for Keira. In his latest Grazia interview (you know, the one where he says Kate Middleton’s mum is “very sexy”) the Chanel designer confessed he hasn’t had much luck with bridal designs in the past, revealing:

“I love Keira. I would love to do it if she wanted. [Whispers] Normally I don’t recommend me for the wedding dresses – they all get a divorce.”

It’s like the curse of the Chanel wedding gown (by the way, this should totally be made into a dramatic musical theatre production). Does Karl Lagerfeld give this warning to every potential Chanel bride? Perhaps it’s why Blake Lively opted for a custom Marchesa design, instead of the expected Chanel Haute Couture number, when she married Ryan Reynolds?

Let’s just hope Keira’s brave enough to be a Chanel bride. She might even break the curse…

Would you like to see Keira marry in a Chanel design? Or do you have another label in mind?

Six of the Best… Embellished Collars

Fashion’s current love for statement collars doesn’t seem to be waning (blame Karl Lagerfeld if you’re not a fan of this trend), but for Autumn/Winter 2012 they’ve been given a decadent makeover, with heavy embellishments and eye-catching textures. Marni and KARL are both championing the look with floral paillettes, sparkling crystals, lace trims and delicate beading; whilst Topshop and ASOS remain hot on their heels with plenty of affordable options. Pair your embellished collars with cosy navy sweaters and A-line skirts. Simple, yet super chic!

Do you plan to wear embellished collars this season? Which designs are your favourites?

Choupette Lagerfeld is Profiled in i-D Magazine

Fashion’s most famous feline, Choupette Lagerfeld, has quickly become an icon in her own right (are you following her on Twitter?) and she’s just scored a feature in i-D magazine. The exclusive pictures show Choupette hiding inside a Colette shopping bag, relaxing on a pile of Goyard suitcases and playing with her iPad. Karl Lagerfeld spoke to i-D, giving us a further insight into the glamorous life of Choupette. Apparently her nickname is “Princess Choupette or Miss Choupette” and she loves to “destroy paper” and drive “her beloved maids crazy.”

Choupette brings a whole new meaning to the word spoilt! A true diva. See all of her i-D photos and read Karl Lagerfeld’s exclusive interview on i-D online. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it!

Are you also obsessed with Choupette Lagerfeld? What do you make of her i-D editorial?

Cara Delevingne Covers Russh Magazine

Seeing British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley score her second ELLE UK cover last week just made me wonder how long we’ll have to wait until Cara Delevingne is photographed for the glossy. I have a feeling we won’t have to wait long, but in the meantime Cara covers Russh magazine’s August/September 2012 issue. The accessories remind me of Karl Lagerfeld, who loves a pair of leather gloves and went everywhere with a fan before his dramatic weight loss.
I really like Cara Delevingne’s Russh cover. The zombie-ish eye makeup isn’t really for me, but it works perfectly with the styling. Cara’s cover look is a mash up of Karl Lagerfeld and Mary-Kate Olsen, which is never a bad thing! The new issue hits newsstands on August 1st.
