Shopping For: £3,000 Jackets and Other Fashion Favourites

spring 2013 urban style topshop marni pink beanie
Shop The Edit: 1. Marni embellished top // 2. ASOS beanie hat // 3. Topshop ripped skinny jeans // 4. Tibi silk tank top // 5. Jason Wu leather jacket // 6. Sekonda steel watch // 7. ASOS pointed toe heels

This week I fell in love with a £3,000 Jason Wu leather jacket. It will never be mine (unless I win the lottery – which would be a miracle in itself, seeing as I never buy lottery tickets), but it’s made it’s way onto my Spring 2013 wishlist anyway. It would be a shame to exclude something so beautiful… I’m also crushing over more realistic buys, like the ASOS pointed pumps and Topshop’s skinny ripped jeans. Pair them with the £3,000 jacket and you’ve got a seriously hot high-low fashion mix! What’s on your wishlist this week? Which of the above items are your favourite buys?

Five Must-Have Tailored Jumpsuits Inspired by Diane Kruger

Earlier in the week Diane Kruger attended the Jaeger-LeCoultre Place Vendome store opening in Paris. As the face of the Swiss luxury brand, the 36-year-old actress was on hand to bring a dash of Hollywood Glamour to the event. Diane wore a gorgeous navy blue Jason Wu lace jumpsuit and accessorised her look with a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, a ’40s-pin-up hairstyle and red lipstick. Très chic!

Usually I admire jumpsuits from afar (Stella McCartney is my jumpsuit icon, FYI) but avoid giving them a go, as 1) I have very short legs and 2) they’re highly impractical if you need to pee! However, seeing how chic Diane looked in her Jason Wu number has encouraged me to get over my jumpsuit fear and invest in the look ahead of party season. The trick – it appears – is to avoid anything that suggests a ’70s disco and instead stick to tailored silhouettes in dark, block colours. Here are five of my favourite A/W options:

1. MICHAEL Michael Kors jersey jumpsuit, £170 or $140 USA // 2. Boy. by Band of Outsiders satin trim jumpsuit, £490 // 3. Warehouse backless jumpsuit, £80 or $142 USA // 4. Elizabeth and James ivory and black jumpsuit, £355 or $495 USA // 5. Stella McCartney tuxedo jumpsuit, £2,095 or $3,595 USA

The Stella McCartney tuxedo jumpsuit is the stuff of dreams (It’s very Gwyneth), but if you’re working with a lower budget then Warehouse have a fab option for under £100, and I’m also loving the mannish Elizabeth and James design. Pair them all with a splash of red lipstick and minimal accessories…

Do you like Diane Kruger’s Jason Wu look? Are you a fan of jumpsuits? Which design is your favourite?

What’s Happened at New York Fashion Week So Far?

We’re already onto day five of New York Fashion Week (seriously, how did that happen so quickly?) and while there haven’t been any heart-stoppingly-fabulous moments yet I’ve noticed a few trends brewing. It looks like gladiator sandals are poised to make a comeback, and bra tops have so far appeared in at least two major Spring/Summer 2013 collections. Uh oh…
I’ve also spotted some fabulous accessories and finishing touches, which I hope will spiral out into mini trends. Here’s a quick run-down of the New York Fashion Week highlights so far:

Headphones at W118 By Walter Baker: Models zoned out at the W118 presentation. Each girl stood in the lineup wearing her own pair of colourful headphones. Some girls stood totally still, others couldn’t stop bopping their heads, tapping their feet and wiggling their hips…

Cage shoes at Alexander Wang and Altuzarra: It was only a matter of time before gladiator sandals and cage shoes made a return to the runway. Alexander Wang went for minimalist white styles and Joseph Altuzarra’s heels brought back fond memories of Balenciaga’s iconic gladiators. Expect to see Rihanna and Beyonce wearing these styles soon…

Dresses worn over trousers at Prabal Gurung: Designers are still channeling the 1990′s. The latest case point? Ruffled chiffon dresses worn over tailored trousers at Prabal Gurung. Approach this look carefully though, as I’m not even sure Prabal managed to rock it…

Bra tops at Jason Wu and Victoria Beckham: As if crop tops weren’t scary enough, VB and Jason Wu have gone one better, sending their models out in skimpy bra tops. High-waisted shorts and trousers toned down the nakedness, and seeing as Victoria Beckham never bares her torso in public I think it’s fair to assume this is a runway/editorial only trend.

Mirrored sunglasses at Rebecca Taylor: This isn’t a style I’d usually go for, but somehow Rebecca Taylor’s feminine designs make mirrored sunglasses look pretty cool. The key to rocking these shades clearly lies in your other accessories – or, should I say, your lack of them. Keep your style fuss-free and mirrored sunglasses aren’t so bad. Who’d have thought?

Cricket jumpers at Tommy Hilfiger: It’s hard to find a preppier knit than the cricket jumper, and Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring 2013 designs are absolute must-haves. Worn oversized, as dresses, they were paired with sporty raincoats, chunky white heels and perfectly tanned legs.

Shopping For Fashion-Forward Rain Coats

According to the weather app on my iPhone it’s going rain all week in London. We may not have the most enviable weather in the UK, but Brits certainly know how to dress for a rainy day, and I’ve noticed a great selection of rain coats on offer this spring. From Gap’s classic red trench through to Joseph’s urban parka there’s a rain coat for every mood, this season…

My personal favourites are the Joseph and Jason Wu jackets, which both have a sporty vibe that feels so right for Spring/Summer 2012. That said, I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a chic trench coat… Which is your favourite style of rain coat?

Spring 2012 Trend Debate: Would You Wear Yellow?

Is anyone else getting completely confused about what year it is? I’ve been writing “2012″ ever since the Resort 2012 collections arrived on Style.com (which was about six months ago) and although we’re just coming to the end of 2011 I feel like it should be 2013 by now.

Anyway, the Spring Summer 2012 collections will soon be arriving in store, in time for actual spring 2012 (and just as we’ll be viewing the Fall 2012/13 collections, but let’s not think about that…)

One of the big colour trends for the new year is yellow. Whether it’s so bright it’s verging on highlighter pen chic, as seen at Jason Wu, or is more of the girlish lemon shade, shown at Louis Vuitton, yellow is going to be a big story in 2012. And on the runway it was worn from head-to-toe, so this trend is one for the very brave.

Luckily there are plenty of other ways to dip into the yellow look. Both Proenza Schouler and Alexander Wang have designed yellow handbags and DKNY Jeans [left] are championing the zesty-lemon-skinny-jean, which look fabulous worn with a casual grey sweater.

Personally I do think this trend is all about going for the full colour look, but it’s obviously not going to be for everyone. If I looked good in yellow I’d certainly give it a try. Would you?

Are you happy to see yellow all over the Spring Summer 2012 runways? How will you be wearing the look?

The Red Carpet Hits of the Week: Jaime King, Emma Stone and Elizabeth Olsen

Jaime King: You can’t go wrong with a Jason Wu dress, as Jaime King proved this week at the Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic event. The celebrity turnout was totally bizarre (Adam Sandler, Natasha Bedingfield and Cat Deeley also walked the red carpet) but Jaime made sure all eyes were on her. There’s not much you can say about this look, apart from it’s flawless. The dress is a stunner and Jaime dressed it up perfectly with strappy heels and soft, feminine hair and makeup.
Emma Stone: I’m not exaggerating when I say I think Emma Stone is the most exciting thing to happen in Hollywood this year. Not only is she a great actress, super smart and funny but she also kills it on the red carpet. It’s therefore no wonder that Giorgio Armani asked Emma to host their private dinner with Vanity Fair, in LA this week. The actress was dressed in a strapless blue dress from the Giorgio Armani Spring 2012 collection. The shoes were a little bit disappointing, but if you’re busy staring at Emma’s feet when she looks this beautiful there’s definitely something wrong with you.
Elizabeth Olsen: Could the Olsens be the most stylish family in Hollywood right now? If the Kardashians are their main/only competition then there’s absolutely no question. This week MK and Ashley’s younger sister Elizabeth was back on the red carpet for the Martha Marcy May Marlene New York premiere. As the film’s leading-lady she glammed it up with an Alexander McQueen halter neck dress, McQueen wedges and a matching skull-clasp clutch bag. The chic ballerina bun and red lipstick complemented the black and gold look perfectly. I love it!
