J.Crew and Tabitha Simmons Collaborate for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Collection

This week J.Crew arrived in London. There was a wonderful ‘Cocktails and Cashmere’ event on Wednesday evening, to celebrate their pop-up store in King’s Cross, and yesterday the uber-cool American brand hosted a lunch for UK blogger’s and presented their Autumn/Winter 2013 collection to press. So you might expect me to be all J.Crew-ed out, but I’m not. I could happily talk about J.Crew all day if I was given the chance, and my latest obsession is the Tabitha Simmons CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund collection.

Tabitha Simmons was a runner-up at this year’s CFDA awards, and has created a limited-edition collection for J.Crew. (The Elder Statesmen and Jennifer Meyer have also collaborated with the brand as part of the CFDA collection). I’m a big fan of Tabitha’s footwear designs, so naturally I’ve gone ga-ga for the entire Tabitha Simmons for J.Crew collection.

The collection is currently available to pre-order online at JCrew.com, so act fast if you want a piece of the action! My favourite designs are the floral Mary Janes [above]. They’re the perfect summer shoe!

Sadly J.Crew’s London pop-up shop is only open today and tomorrow (find the address HERE), but the Regent Street flagship store will be opening its doors in a few months’ time. Obviously I’ll keep you updated on the launch date…

J.Crew Hosts the Ultimate Low-Key Summer Wedding

I don’t pay much attention to bridal trends, as I’ve never been one of those girls that dreams of a big wedding (although Bride Wars, ironically, is one of my favourite movies). But over the last few months it’s become clear that big, Disney Princess weddings have been ditched in favour of something more relaxed and low-key.

How do I know? Well, Pinterest is bursting with creative wedding tips (seriously, I think I could now plan a bridal shower in my sleep), Keira Knightley just got married in a recycled Rodarte dress, and this week Grazia is celebrating the “rise of the bridechillas” (they love to merge words at Grazia). Oh – and most importantly – J.Crew’s Wedding Collection for summer 2013 is super low-key and effortlessly pretty.

J Crew Wedding Summer 2013 2

You might think a lightweight linin dress with subtle floral embroidery is far too casual for a bride, but once on (see the last model shot below) it looks elegant, simple and seriously cool. Who wouldn’t want to be that summer bride?

Molly Schaul, the director of wedding design at J.Crew, explains, “For summer we were inspired to use light, romantic fabrics, like embroidered eyelet, linen and swiss-dot chiffon. They’re perfect to add a little fun and texture to your look.”

The J.Crew summer wedding gowns all make a big impact, but they’re in no way fussy or overly-formal. My personal favourites include Angelique, Rosebloom and Corrina. If I was a bride-to-be I’d find it difficult to chose between them. So maybe I’m more interested in wedding dresses that I originally thought…

7 Things To Do This Weekend: The Spring Lipstick and Punk Edition

What do you have planned this weekend? I’m going to be working for most of it (a blogger never stops), but I’m hoping to catch a break at some point so I can make fruit popsicles. Don’t they look absolutely delicious? Here are 7 more fun and fashionable ideas for the weekend. Whatever you’re doing have a fabulous time…

7 Things To Do Weekend Spring Lipstick

1. Create a weekend playlist… Remember the innocent and seriously un-tech days of mix tapes and summer playlists? I really miss then. Setting iTunes to Shuffle just isn’t the same. So this weekend I plan to make a couple of playlists – one for the weekend, a couple for work and workouts and another for relaxing. Any song suggestions?

2. Make fruit popsicles… Spring has finally arrived and I fancy celebrating with a fruit popsicle! Even the most useless cooks can master this recipe, which requires minimal skill and effort. They’re so simple but look so pretty!

3. Fragrance your home… Jo Malone London has just launched a new fragrance collection for the home. English Pear & Freesia comes in six options: a candle, a diffuser, a room spray, a pair of luxurious clothes hangers, a fabric sachet set and scented drawer liners. Starting at £30 the collection is a little pricey, but perfect if you’re looking to treat yourself or a friend. The fragrance itself is clean, refreshing and totally irresistible!

4. Search for a new spring lipstick… If you haven’t already invested in a new lip colour for spring now is the perfect time to shop for one! I’ll be wearing coral shades this season, as they seem to be universally flattering. If you feel like splashing out try Chanel’s Rouge Coco collection or Lipstick Queen, but for less than £10 you can’t go wrong with a Revlon shade. Their colours are long-lasting and moisturising.

5. Get creative… Ever since I was given the Ryan Gosling colouring book for Christmas I’ve got really into colouring in.   Ryan may be hot, but he’s not that interesting to colour (how many plaid shirts can one man wear?), so I’ve branched out into the world of fashion colouring books. Colour Me Good Fashion [pictured above] and My Wonderful World of Fashion are both worth checking out.

6. Order some J.Crew jewellery… Fashion insiders are absolutely obsessed with J.Crew, and this season everyone is going mad for their jewellery. The latest collection has just gone live on JCrew.com (which now offers flat-rate shipping to the UK) and it’s so gorgeous I’m tempted to add everything to my shopping cart. See if you can resist…

7. Pre-Order… If you love being the first amongst your friends to discover the hottest new reads make sure you get pre-ordering on Amazon, this weekend. Leandra Medine’s book of essays, Man Repeller: Seeking Love. Finding Overalls., isn’t out until September, but it’s already making headlines. And you can also pre-order Punk: Chaos to Couture, which accompanies the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s upcoming costume exhibition of the same name.

Hide & Chic: The February 2013 Edition

February Hide and Chic Mulberry Willow

Happy February 1st! It may be the shortest month of the year, but February is jam-packed with exciting fashion news. You can expect cool collaborations (hello GOLDSIGN & J.Crew), new product launches and plenty of drama centred around fashion week. Here’s a run-down of what’s hot, and what’s not, this month…

Beyoncé’s US Vogue Cover: Prepare for a Beyoncé takeover, this month, as the 31-year-old superstar is set to cover US Vogue’s March issue (on newsstands in February), perform at the Super Bowl, release her HBO documentary and also has a new album in the works. If you’re not a fan of the Single Ladies singer now would be a good time to go into hiding!

The Karl Lagerfeld Keychain: Have you ever wanted to carry Karl Lagerfeld around with you in your handbag? No? Well never mind. Because all that’s important here is the fact that now you can. The KARL plexiglass keychain is rather eye-watering £119, but I guess a premium price is to be expected from Chanel’s iconic designer…

Fashion Week/Month: The Autumn/Winter 2013 shows kick off in New York on February 7th, and then it’s over to London, Milan and Paris. It will be a busy season for Alexander Wang, who will show his debut collection for Balenciaga.

The Mulberry ‘Willow’ Bag: My all-time favourite Mulberry handbag finally hits stores in mid-February. The ‘Willow’ – a structured tote with a genius zip-detached envelope clutch – will be exclusive to Mulberry boutiques, and I’m sure there will be a stampede of women waiting to get their hands on the design. Sign up for updates HERE.

GOLDSIGN X J.Crew: This month sees the launch of a very special collaboration. GOLDSIGN have joined forces with American retail-giant, J.Crew, to create a limited-edition denim collection. Three uber-cool styles have been created: a high-waisted jean, a classic slim-leg 5-pocket design and a sexy denim pencil skirt  Make sure you log on to jcrew.com on February 27th to snap up your favourite piece.

Love Hearts: You can’t do a February round-up and not include Valentine’s Day, can you? So here’s my pick of best buys for February 14th… YSL have updated their False Lash Effect mascara with a Swarovski crystal heart (£23.50); Hotel Chocolat have a delicious-looking range of Valentine’s chocolates (starting from £1.95); and Vivienne Westwood’s heart brooch watch will look great year-round (£199 at ASOS).

Hide… Dry and dull complexions: Winter weather can wreak havoc on your skin, but Garnier’s new Moisture Match range is here to help. There are five moisturisers in the collection, covering a variety of skin complaints – from very dry skin through to dull complexions. And at just £5.99 they’re the perfect beauty pick-me-up.

Five Of The Best: Slogan Knits & Sweaters

Every winter I fall into the same style trap, wearing a uniform that consists of the following: skinny jeans + knit/sweater + ankle boots + chunky scarf. When it’s so cold outside there aren’t that many other options, but in an effort to mix it up a little I’m looking to slogan knits and sweaters. In Spring 2013′s pretty pastel shades they add a hint of new-season optimism and seamlessly fit into the winter dressing formula. Now I just have to chose my favourite slogan…

Shop The Edit: “Lucky” wool knit by Markus Lupfer // “J’Adore” jumper by Miss Selfridge // “Darling” cashmere sweater by J.Crew // “Madame” cotton sweatshirt by Zoe Karssen // “Genius” knit jumper by Topshop

For the first time ever my favourite design is the one of the high street items: Miss Selfridge’s “J’Adore” jumper. This momentous occasion definitely needs to be celebrated with a purchase, and luckily the design is under £40! Amazing…
