Hide & Chic: The March 2013 Edition

march 2013 hide and chic

OK, so March really snuck up on me this year! I was busy with fashion week, then got distracted by Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars, and before I knew it February was coming to an end. So the Hide & Chic post is a bit of a last minute job this month, and I’ve probably overlooked some key launches by accident. But never mind, there’s still plenty here to get excited about – from Justin Timberlake’s music comeback (dude, what took you so long?!) to the haircut every fashion fan is asking her hairdresser for. Find out exactly what’s happening in March 2013 right here…

The 20/20 Experience: Justin Timberlake is finally making music again. Hallelujah! It’s been seven years (yes, seven!!) since JT released FutureSex/LoveSounds, but he’s back with a new album, out on March 18th. The 20/20 Experience features new singles, “Suit & Tie” and “Mirrors”, as well as 10 new tracks. Pre-order your copy now!

Mother’s Day 2013: Write it in your diaries now, ladies. Mother’s Day (UK) falls on Sunday March 10th. And instead of sending flowers, this year, why not treat your mum to a tin of iced biscuits? I think this limited-edition selection of flower-shaped biscuits from Biscuiteers, £30, is a fabulous gift. Especially if your mum loves to share…

Rihanna for River Island: You’ve seen the collection, compiled your wishlist and now it’s finally time to shop. Rihanna’s designs for River Island hit stores on March 5th, and there’s sure to be a group of diehard RiRi fans waiting in line. I’m interested to see which pieces sell out first. The yellow T-shirt dress, above, is my personal favourite.

The Fendi Baguette: Justin Timberlake isn’t the only one making a comeback, this month. The Fendi Baguette is also having a revival. A favourite of Carrie Bradshaw, the iconic shoulder bag is on-trend once again, and Matches have a great selection of Baguette bags online now. They don’t come cheap (a basic black design will set you back £700, and the beaded numbers are £2,000+) but they’re fashion collectables. It’s time to start saving!

The First Days of Spring: It will officially be the beginning of spring on March 20th, and I’m hoping for sunshine! I’m not sure how likely that is (I hate the unpredictable British weather) but I’m feeling optimistic anyway. Start shopping for new sunglasses now, just incase. I like the oversized cat eye frames, above, which are £10 at ASOS.

Oz The Great and Powerful: Disney’s prequel to The Wizard of Oz finally hits cinemas on March 8th. James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams all star in the 3D fantasy adventure. I’m most excited to see the costumes, which I’ve covered multiple times on Coco’s Tea Party.

Hide… Long Hair: Make an appointment with your hairdresser pronto, as the hot style of the season is the Karlie Kloss bob! After watching Karlie shimmy down the Burberry runway I’m even contemplating getting a crop myself – and I’ve been attempting to grow a hair bra (that’s hair so long it covers your boobs, FYI) for over a year.

Hide & Chic: The February 2013 Edition

February Hide and Chic Mulberry Willow

Happy February 1st! It may be the shortest month of the year, but February is jam-packed with exciting fashion news. You can expect cool collaborations (hello GOLDSIGN & J.Crew), new product launches and plenty of drama centred around fashion week. Here’s a run-down of what’s hot, and what’s not, this month…

Beyoncé’s US Vogue Cover: Prepare for a Beyoncé takeover, this month, as the 31-year-old superstar is set to cover US Vogue’s March issue (on newsstands in February), perform at the Super Bowl, release her HBO documentary and also has a new album in the works. If you’re not a fan of the Single Ladies singer now would be a good time to go into hiding!

The Karl Lagerfeld Keychain: Have you ever wanted to carry Karl Lagerfeld around with you in your handbag? No? Well never mind. Because all that’s important here is the fact that now you can. The KARL plexiglass keychain is rather eye-watering £119, but I guess a premium price is to be expected from Chanel’s iconic designer…

Fashion Week/Month: The Autumn/Winter 2013 shows kick off in New York on February 7th, and then it’s over to London, Milan and Paris. It will be a busy season for Alexander Wang, who will show his debut collection for Balenciaga.

The Mulberry ‘Willow’ Bag: My all-time favourite Mulberry handbag finally hits stores in mid-February. The ‘Willow’ – a structured tote with a genius zip-detached envelope clutch – will be exclusive to Mulberry boutiques, and I’m sure there will be a stampede of women waiting to get their hands on the design. Sign up for updates HERE.

GOLDSIGN X J.Crew: This month sees the launch of a very special collaboration. GOLDSIGN have joined forces with American retail-giant, J.Crew, to create a limited-edition denim collection. Three uber-cool styles have been created: a high-waisted jean, a classic slim-leg 5-pocket design and a sexy denim pencil skirt  Make sure you log on to jcrew.com on February 27th to snap up your favourite piece.

Love Hearts: You can’t do a February round-up and not include Valentine’s Day, can you? So here’s my pick of best buys for February 14th… YSL have updated their False Lash Effect mascara with a Swarovski crystal heart (£23.50); Hotel Chocolat have a delicious-looking range of Valentine’s chocolates (starting from £1.95); and Vivienne Westwood’s heart brooch watch will look great year-round (£199 at ASOS).

Hide… Dry and dull complexions: Winter weather can wreak havoc on your skin, but Garnier’s new Moisture Match range is here to help. There are five moisturisers in the collection, covering a variety of skin complaints – from very dry skin through to dull complexions. And at just £5.99 they’re the perfect beauty pick-me-up.

Hide & Chic: The January 2013 Edition

Happy New Year! There’s lots to look forward to this year, and January 2013 is packed full of exciting events. Awards Season officially kicks off in a weeks’ time, and at the end of the month the Spring 2013 Haute Couture collections will show in Paris. Stay in the loop with all the must-know news with the latest Hide & Chic edition…

Olivia Rubin’s Cruise Collection: Olivia Rubin’s fabulous and super-wearable Cruise 2013 collection drops this month. Keep an eye on Olivia’s online store, as the printed pink dress [above] is sure to sell out fast. It’s oh so flattering and is a great investment for the summer wedding season.

The Paris Haute Couture Shows: The Spring/Summer 2013 Haute Couture collections will hit the Paris runways from January 21st to the 24th. This season Givenchy are sadly missing from the show schedule (though the label is continuing to produce couture), but we have plenty to look forward to from Elie Saab, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, JPG and more… Bring on the Oscar gowns!

The ASOS Geocentric Collection: ASOS are wasting no time this year, launching their first S/S 2013 trend in January. The “Geocentric” collection is packed full of bright colours, bold prints and mismatched separates. Create a striking optical illusion in the orange and blue T-shirt [above] which is sure to bring a new lease of life to skinny jeans. Online in January 2013 at ASOS and ASOS USA.

Jo Malone London Earl Grey & Cucumber Fragrance: Jo Malone have just launched their new scent, which is truly delicious. Previously available as part of the limited-edition Tea Collection, Earl Grey & Cucumber is now sold as a stand-alone fragrance and I’m obsessed with the cool, crisp and refreshing cologne. Available now from £38 for 30ml at Selfridges.

Awards Season: Forget Christmas, Awards Season is the most wonderful time of the year! And the red carpet is sure to be amazing in 2013, as Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard and Nicole Kidman are leading the nominations. The Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala takes place on the 5th, leading up to the Golden Globes on January 13th. Exciting times!

Girls Season 2: HBO’s hit show returns for its second season on January 13th, and is back on UK screens the very next day! If the two-week wait feels like a lifetime you can distract yourself with the latest teaser trailer. It looks like it’s going to be another great series. P.S I really hate that string vest…

And, finally, it’s time to hide… the high calorie Christmas snacks! Fashion Week is only a month away, for starters, and my body is definitely crying out for a break from sugar. Anyone else attempting a health-kick this month?

What launches, events, award shows are you most excited about, this month?

Hide & Chic: The December 2012 Edition

And just like that it’s December… There’s lots to look forward to this month – namely mince pies, mulled wine and gingerbread men - with plenty of exciting fashion launches taking place, from the Resort 2013 collections dropping to Temperley London’s new store. And, in semi-sad news, Gossip Girl finally comes to an end this month, with a special 2-hour episode airing the week before Christmas. Make sure you’re up-to-date with all the news by bookmarking the festive Hide & Chic December edition
Beauty Christmas Crackers: This year everyone’s gone crackers for, well… beauty crackers! Dress up your dining room table on Christmas Day with Lancome’s crackers (£50 for six), or, for something a little less girly, try the Kiehl’s crackers (£35 for six).
Temperley London’s New Store: Temperley London is the latest brand to set up shop in Mayfair, with a new flagship store on 27 Bruton Street. The Georgian townhouse is now open, and is definitely worth a visit, as all of the Temperley collections – including bridal wear – can be found inside its doors.
LOLA’s Christmas Cupcakes: LOLA’s has introduced four adorable limited-edition festive cupcakes in the run-up to Christmas. The Reindeer, Snowman, Chocolate Yule Log and Mince Pie & Brandy Butter cupcakes are £3 each or £18 for a box of six. Shop online or in Selfridges and Topshop Oxford Circus.

Whistles Cruise Collection: Whistles‘ Resort 2013 collection hits stores this month, and the standout item has to be the denim jacquard bomber jacket (£225), which arrives on the second week of December. Wear now in place of cardigans, and as a jacket once the temperature starts to rise in Spring ’13.
St.Tropez’s Diamond Tan: St. Tropez have just launched the Diamond Tan, the world’s most expensive tanning treatment at £200 a go. Wonder how it works? Well, “perfectly tanned skin is carefully covered with a delicate mist of diamond dust to enhance the skin’s luminosity” and real diamonds are involved – explaining the cost! The treatment is available exclusively at Selfridges London throughout December.
The Gossip Girl Finale: The final Gossip Girl episode airs on the CW Network on December 17th, and on Wednesday 19th in the UK. Rumour has it Kristen Bell (who does the GG voiceover) will guest star, but other than that hardly any details have been leaked. And, in other Gossip Girl news, Blake Lively’s wedding photos will appear in Martha Stewart Weddings, on newsstands December 24th. I can’t wait!
Hide… Hangovers: Get through party season with Korres’ Party Survival Kit (£19). It includes all the hangover essentials – eye cream, cleanser, moisturiser, shower gel and chewing gum.
Are you excited about December 2012? Will you tune in to the final Gossip Girl episode on the 17th?

Hide & Chic: The November 2012 Edition

It’s crazy to think that it’s nearly the end of the year. Soon everyone will be talking about Christmas and New Year, and then we have Awards Season to look forward to. But for now let’s just enjoy November and the exciting fashion/beauty launches coming up over the next four weeks. The Hide & Chic edit has everything covered, so you won’t miss a single collaboration or emerging mini-trend…

Vampire Chic: The final Twilight Saga movie, Breaking Dawn – Part 2, is released on November 16th, marking the end of the vampire-crazy era. Celebrate with Markus Lupfer’s vampire sequin knit and keep an eye out for Kristen Stewart’s red carpet appearances. There’s the whole will-they-won’t-they PR stunt building up around a reconciled Kstew/Rpatz red carpet walk, but I’m more interested to see which labels Kristen chooses to wear. Will it be Balenciaga again or perhaps a younger, lesser-known designer?

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense: November 16th also marks the release of Clinique’s new Chubby Stick Intense range. The popular moisturising lip balms are back, with eight new shades in – you guessed it – much more intense colours. Find them at Clinique counters from the 16th, for £16 each, or shop the current Chubby Stick collection now at Sephora and Selfridges.

Novelty Eye Lashes: Now that the fuss around nail art has died down it’s time for eye lashes to have their moment in the spotlight. Novelty eye lashes are quickly approaching trend-status, with Paperself’s pretty paper lashes (shaped like the London skyline and peacocks feathers, amongst other things) now stocked on ASOS. They may not be particularly practical for everyday wear, but their great for parties!

Felt Hats: Perfect for keeping dry (and avoiding bad hair days) in the cold winter rain, wide-brimmed felt hats are a wardrobe necessity this Autumn/Winter. Rag & Bone’s red fedora [pictured above] is my top choice, but you’ll find similar options at ASOS and Topshop.

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M: The launch party took place last week, but the Margiela for H&M collection doesn’t drop until November 15th. As always, the designs are expected to go fast, so if you’ve got your eye on the sweet wrapper clutch bag and perspex heel boots I suggest you get up very early on the 15th. Set your iPhone alarms now…

The Kardashian Kollection: Love them or hate them, you can’t deny it will be interesting to see how Kourtney, Kim and Khloe’s Kardashian Kollection will be received when it launches in the UK at Dorothy Perkins. Kourtney and Kim arrive in London on November 8th (Khloe will be stuck in LA due to her X Factor commitments), so stay tuned for updates on official launch. I’ll be there…

Hide… Ballet Flats: Even if you have freakishly warm feet, ballet flats just look odd in the winter – even the super cute bunny designs, pictured above. Now that November is here it’s officially time to swap your ballerinas for biker boots.

Which November 2012 launches are you excited about? Will you be standing in line for MMM at H&M and the Kardashian Kollection at Dorothy Perkins?

Hide & Chic: The October 2012 Edition

It’s the first day of October, which means we’ve got a whole host of new exhibitions, product launches, trends and must-watch TV shows coming our way. Keep up-to-date with everything that’s going on this month with October’s Hide & Chic edit. You’ll be pleased to know it doesn’t feature anything Halloween related, which is quite an achievement…
Chanel’s Little Black Jacket: The Little Black Jacket exhibition arrives in London on October 12th. A selection of Karl Lagerfeld’s favourite ladies (including Carine, SJP, Elle Fanning and Alexa Chung) posed for exhibition, so hurry down to the Saatchi gallery fast. It’s only in town for three weeks!
The “Style to Savour” Campaign at Harrods: Today Harrods launch their exciting new online campaign, Style to Savour. Famed for their food halls, the iconic department store has fused fashion and food together for the month of October. Check out their stunning fashion images, photographed in Ladurée and their other world-class eateries, at harrods.com from today.
The Baroque Trend: The look started on the runways at Balmain and Dolce & Gabbana, and now the great British high street is getting in on the baroque trend. Topshop is currently leading the way, with their body-con printed dress, which gives you the Balmain look for under £40!

Tommy Hilfiger for Breast Health International: Tommy Hilfiger is offering his support to Breast Health International (BHI), with a limited-edition charity tote bag. The navy blue and red handbag goes on sale this month, and £100 from each purchase (the bag retails at £225) will be donated to BHI’s Fund for Living. Look out for the accompanying campaign, which stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and was photographed by Drew Barrymore.
Monica Vinader’s Scarves: You won’t struggle to spot Monica Vinader‘s designs on the front row at fashion week, and October sees the launch of jewellery designer’s scarf collection. The cotton and silk printed scarves will be available to buy in the Scarf Room at Liberty, and in Monica’s South Molton street store, later this month. Prices start at £80.
Hide… Sex and the City: Yep, it’s time to ditch those DVD boxsets, ladies. It’s all about Lena Dunham’s Girls now, which makes it’s UK debut on Sky Atlantic, in mid-October. There’s less Manolo Blahnik (in fact, there aren’t any Manolos) but it’s refreshingly real and will win you over in no time at all.

Are you excited about all of the upcoming October 2012 launches? Do you plan to watch Girls? And will you visit the Chanel Little Black Jacket exhibition?
