What Do Justin Bieber, Zooey Deschanel and Hailee Steinfeld Have in Common? Their Stylist, Surprisingly…

Kemal and Karla Welch celebrity stylist

I’m always fascinated to see which celebrities share a stylist. Most of the time it makes perfect sense. Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams both work with Kate Young; Jennifer Lopez and Sofia Vergara are Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn clients; and Kate Bosworth and Nicole Richie are dressed by Cher Coulter. So no real surprises there. But did you know Justin Bieber and Zooey Deschanel use the same celebrity stylist? Their looks aren’t exactly similar, but it’s true. Styling duo, Kemal Harris and Karla Welch, have worked with Hailee Steinfeld since her 2011 Oscar nomination (remember the striped Prada gown? That was their work) and they’ve now developed a seriously eclectic clientele!

Kemal and Karla were profiled for The Hollywood Reporter’s annual 25 Most Powerful Stylists feature, and I was really surprised to discover who else they style. Alongside Hailee they dress Justin Bieber, Olivia Wilde, Amy Poehler, Zooey Deschanel, Anna Paquin, Elisabeth Moss and Pink. That’s a pretty wide selection of looks to cover, isn’t it? There are the kooky/vintagey frocks for Zooey, ’90s-inspired get-ups for Bieber and ‘It’ girl glamour for Hailee and Olivia…

And – in case you’re wondering - Kemal and Karla were responsible for the styling Justin’s Believe album and world tour, so the monstrosity that is the “dirty diaper” pants hopefully has nothing to do with them.

Hailee Steinfeld Wears a Preppy Cardigan to the Chanel Couture Show

Hailee Steinfeld Chanel couture show cardigan leather skirt hat

Hailee Steinfeld sat front row at Chanel’s Spring 2013 Haute Couture show, yesterday morning. The 16-year-old actress dressed up for the occasion, wearing a leather pencil skirt, a fabulous cardigan from the Paris Edimbourg collection, a baker boy cap and a bright yellow resin clutch. Her look was fun, kooky and a little bit Harry Potter (it’s the double “C” crest that does it – totally Hogwarts!). Sure, the outfit may not be for everyone, but I think Hailee is a breath of fresh air. This is exactly how Hollywood teens should be dressing! And if this doesn’t bag her a Teen Vogue cover nothing will…

See what the rest of the A-list front row wore to the Chanel show over on the Coco’s Tea Party Facebook page.

Would You Rather: The Miu Miu Teen Queens

I haven’t had time to read the December issue of British Vogue yet, but flicking through I noticed that 14-year-old Chloë Moretz has a feature. The Kick-Ass star was photographed for the magazine by Matt Irwin and in one image models a 1940′s inspired Miu Miu coat. A coat from the very collection that 14-year-old True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld models in the A/W 2011 ad campaign. Oh, to be 14 and have instant access to Miu Miu… Is it wrong to be totally jealous of both girls?
I think they both look gorgeous in this collection, but if I had to choose between the two images I’d go with Chloë’s shot, which I prefer ever so slightly. And as you’ve probably heard already, Hailee’s run as offical Miu Miu face appears to be over, with model Guinevere Van Seenus staring in the Resort 2012 ad campaign instead. A lot has been said about whether Miu Miu went for an older model (Guinevere is 34) because Hailee didn’t appeal to their customer base, but I think her campaign, photographed by Bruce Weber, was one of their best ever.
Anyway, the fashion industry is known to run in a circle of opposite ideas. One season it will be neon/maxi skirts/mannish shapes the next it’s pastels/mini skirts/feminine silhouettes. Using a 14-year-old model one minute and a 34-year-old the next is really no different. The Daily Mail should stop being so over dramatic
Who do you think wears the Miu Miu A/W 2011 coat the best? And if you have a spare £1,500 you can shop the look over at Net-A-Porter

Five Reasons Versace is Super Hot Right Now

I hate Marmite but love so many things that have that love-it-or-hate-it Marmite effect on people. Madonna has always been a favourite of mine, but I understand some people cannot stand her. The same goes for Versace. I adore the Italian fashion house – always have, always will – but have a handful of friends who simply don’t understand the hyper-glam image of the brand.
But I have noticed that those who do love Versace are experiencing an extra surge of affection right now. Lady Gaga famously promised to wear Versace for two months, my lovely friend Alice (who has great taste) is constantly stalking vintage Versace jeans on eBay and ’90s Versace ads are all over Tumblr at the moment. Here are five reasons that the house of Versace is smoking hot right now…
1. The H&M collection:
Versace for H&M is due to hit stores in November and I’m already counting down the days. “The collection will be quintessential Versace,” Donatella Versace said, when the news of the collaboration was first announced. “Perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere.” I’ll be investing in the prints and gold embellished leather pieces. A Pre-Spring 2012 collection will follow in January. Could it get any better?
2. The Vintage Versace Revival
The Versace influence is clearly visible on the Spring/Summer 2012 runways. Holly Fulton’s collection was one of my London highlights, and that had a lot to do with the 1990s Versace inspired prints. D&G’s last ever collection also had a strong Gianni Versace vibe, with gorgeous brightly printed scarves. Who will be next?
3. Young Hollywood
You see a lot of Versace on the red carpet, but it’s usually reserved for those big photo op moments – think Demi Moore at the Oscars in 2010 and Gwyneth Paltrow at the Country Music Awards. Now the Young Hollywood set and getting in on the act, though, and they’re bringing a new playfulness to the iconic label. Over the weekend Hailee Steinfeld wore a Resort 2012 dress to Teen Vogue’s annual “Young Hollywood” party. And where she goes Teen Vogue-ettes quickly follow…
4. Lady Gaga
We also can’t deny the influence of Lady Gaga. Whether you love her or hate her she gets those all important newspaper headlines. So when she wore vintage Versace exclusively in her video for The Edge of Glory she introduced a lot of new faces to the brand. As I noted in The Huffington Post, earlier this year, Gaga has been taking inspiration from Donatella, further cementing Versace’s It status.
5. The Spring/Summer 2012 Collection
“This was a Versace command performance,” wrote Cathy Horyn of the Spring/Summer 2012 collection. Donatella showed a collection of sugary pastels, signature Versace prints, short shorts, studded pencil skirts and show-stopping gowns. All with a surprising Little Mermaid vibe. Tim Blanks summed it up simply, writing, “It’s a Versace moment.” Quite right.
Are you a big fan of Versace? What did you make of the S/S collection?

Which is Your Favourite Teen Queen LOVE Cover

From left: Elle Fanning, Chloe Moretz, Hailee Steinfeld | images models.com and TFS

The sixth issue of LOVE magazine comes out today, and although there are eight different covers in total (see them all HERE) it’s the three covers staring Hollywood’s youngest and most stylish stars that are getting the most online attention. I’m still undecided about which copy to buy. I’ll definitely go for one of the above covers as, strangely, I think they’re all much stronger than the model editions. But it’s so hard to chose between Elle. Chloe and Hailee. Which is your favourite LOVE cover?

I’ll be buying…

Hailee Steinfeld is Miu Miu’s New Face

I had been hoping this would happen and it finally looks like it’s all set. Last night Just Jared confirmed that True Grit star Hailee Steinfeld had signed up to star in Miu Miu’s A/W 2011 ad campaign. It makes sense because Hailee has worn rather a lot of Miu Miu on the red carpet, attended the Paris show and is also one of the ‘girls of the moment’. She now joins the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst and Katie Homes, who have all modelled for Miu Miu before.

The fall Miu Miu collection was one of my favourite A/W collections not just in Paris but across all four cities, and I have high hopes for this campaign. Hailee has shown she has a fantastic eye for fashion and I’m glad that Miuccia Prada has noticed her.

What do you rhink about this news? Is Hailee the right choice for Miu Miu?
