Fashion Flashback: André 3000 and Liya Kebede Pose for US Vogue

Like the rest of the planet, I’ve been listening to Beyoncé and André 3000′s version of ‘Back to Black‘ non-stop, since it was released two weeks ago. And I think the universe must know this, because while I was busy looking for something else online I stumbled across this vintage US Vogue editorial, starring André 3000 and Liya Kebede. The Arthur Elgort shoot first appeared in the January 2005 issue, and showcased the season’s prettiest circle skirts. Seriously, only Anna Wintour could convince a male Hip-Hop artist to pose for a story about circle skirts. Isn’t it brilliant?

And, it’s interesting to note that even though the “Bring It On Home” editorial is almost a decade old, Grace Coddington’s styling is completely timeless. I hadn’t seen these images before, and if you’d told me they were taken from a recent Resort collection lookbook I wouldn’t have doubted you. Who else desperately wants to wear a full circle skirt now?

Kate Upton Plays a Veterinary Nurse for Harper’s Bazaar

Kate Upton Harper's Bazaar Tiger Editorial
Editorial: “The Animal Nursery”
Publication: Harper’s Bazaar US, May 2013
Photographer: Sebastian Faena
Fashion: Carine Roitfeld

The Harper’s Bazaar team certainly know how to put together an unfortgettable editorial. Simply dress model-of-the-moment, Kate Upton, in the hottest Pre-Fall 2013 looks (all of which have a safari vibe), and then invite a litter of tiger cubs to pose alongside her. What could possibly be more wholesome and cute than an All-American Girl helping baby animals? Especially when said girl is dressed in the latest Lanvin and Gucci collections…

Carine Roitfeld styled ‘The Animal Nursery’ editorial, as she is now the Global Fashion Director at Harper’s Bazaar. This shoot will run in all 26 global editions of the magazine, so apologies if I’m showing you something you’ve already seen a million times – I just couldn’t resist! Kate and the tiger cub now cover Harper’s Bazaar Brazil, and a new set of pictures from the shoot were printed in the UK May edition. Out of interest, how do you feel about this repetition from magazines?

The Many Editorial Faces of “The Host” Actress, Saoirse Ronan

Recently it feels like every time I open up a fashion magazine The Host actress, Saoirse Ronan, is staring back at me. Usually this kind of repetition would be boring, but the 18-year-old is such a chameleon when it comes to modelling and looks completely different in each editorial she stars in. For US Vogue Saorise was pretty and prim in a feminine dress, she went bleach blonde and for Dazed & Confused, looked haunting in UK Vogue and then was dreamy for US InStyle.

At this rate it surely won’t be long until Saoirse is covering all the major glossy magazines. I’m sure she’ll start with Teen Vogue – where I’m guessing she’ll either be preppy or promy – and move on to British Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. One things for sure though, I’ll be waiting to see what she’s wearing. It’s always great to see an actress get into character on a shoot, and Saoirse Ronan definitely loves a transformation!

Are you pleased to see Saoirse Ronan modelling in so many glossies? Which editorial is your favourite? Let me know…

A Note of Absence and Inspiration Pictures

I’m a bit of a poorly panda today, and hadn’t pre-written any content for the week, so I’m afraid a selection if inspiration photos is all I can muster up at the moment. Here are a few things that I’ve been loving/thinking about lately…

home office design ideas
jennifer lawrence w magazine
inspiration pictures j crew pink blazer
the notebook rachel mcadams ryan gosling
chloe fall 2013 cape

Home Office Designs. Working from home can get a little tiresome, and I spent the entire weekend daydreaming about chic office spaces. Above are two of my favourite designs, both spotted on Pinterest. And, speaking of Pinterest, are you following Coco’s Tea Party?

Vintage Jennifer Lawrence Shoots. OK, so 2010 doesn’t really classify as “vintage”, but I’ve been revisiting Jen’s first big editorials and adore the above shot from W magazine. The 22-year-old Oscar winner was photographed for the glossy by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, and appeared on the September cover with Kat Dennings, Emma Roberts, Jessica Chastain and Zoë Kravitz.

New Clothes. There’s nothing like a spot of online shopping to perk you up when you’re feeling sick. At the moment I’m tempted by J.Crew’s pale pink tweed jacket (very First Lady chic) and Topshop’s Richard Nicoll-esque brocade origami skirt. They’d both be welcome additions to my Spring/Summer 2013 wardrobe…

Ryan and Rachel Forever. With the news that Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen have split (according to Perez Hilton he didn’t want to commit) the natural thing to do is question whether a McGosling reunion could be on the cards. The Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes romance will probably put a stop to every Notebook fans dreams, but at least we have the DVD to crack out in hard times, right? “If you’re a bird I’m a bird.” Swoon!

The Chloé Autumn/Winter 2013 Coats. I’m loving Clare Waight Keller’s fresh direction at Chloé, and the Fall 2013 collection is one of my Paris Fashion Week highlights. The blue cape coat, above, is a particular highlight. I wonder how long it will be until every high street giant is copying the look? Three months maybe?

Stylish Beach Towels. You know how much I love animal print (leopard and zebra rank highest, then giraffe – FYI) so I was instantly drawn to this ONE by Maslin beach towel. At first I thought it was a super cool rug – which admittedly would be more useful – but it turns out it’s just a seriously fashionable beach accessory. Make sure you order yours now if you’re planning a fabulous beach vacay with girlfriends!

Hopefully I’ll be back tomorrow with some exciting new content. But for now I’m off to bed with a copy of ELLE UK!

Film’s Hottest Actors Pose for the 2013 Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue

London Fashion Week starts in less than 24 hours, it’s freezing outside, this week feels like it’s gone on forever and I’m cranky. Many of you probably feel the same, so it’s definitely the perfect time to feature some Hollywood hunks. Luckily the 2013 Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue is filled with attractive male actors, from Richard Gere right through to man-of-the-moment, Eddie Redmayne. And as a Valentine’s Day treat I’ve handpicked four of the hottest portraits for you to swoon over. Print them out, tape them to the fridge, set them as your desktop backgrounds… whatever, just enjoy!

Top left is Charlie Hunnam. The English actor has appeared in a range of films and TV shows, from Byker Grove to Cold Mountain. He’s 32, an Aries and is married to actress Katharine Towne.

Top right is Liam Hemsworth. Best known for playing Gale in The Hunger Games, Liam is engaged to Miley Cyrus and is the youngest Hemsworth brother (there’s also Chris and Luke). The 23-year-old Australian actor is 6ft 3 and admits he’s fascinated with squirrels.

Bottom left is Garrett Hedlund. The 28-year-old has been dating Kirsten Dunst since they met on the set of On the Road. Garret is a Virgo, grew up in Arizona and modelled for L.L. Bean before he made it as an actor.

Bottom right is a man who needs no introduction, Brad Pitt. Vanity Fair didn’t even manage to photograph Brad for this issue, yet they still printed an archive photo of him from 1992. As you can see, Brad, now 49, was working the bedhead look long before Garret. He’s a true icon.

See more from the 2013 Vanity Fair Hollywood issue online now, or find the March edition on newsstands now. Which Hollywood hottie is your personal favourite? For me it’s got to be Liam Hemsworth - I’m all about the height…

W Magazine Photographs Stars Without Makeup

I hate those tacky tabloid magazine features that constantly alert you to stars without makeup, stars with celulite, stars with sweat stains etc, etc. Especially as they all continue to use that photo of Cameron Diaz suffering from a break-out before the 2002 release of Gangs of New York. It’s so boring/predictable. But anyway… for W magazine’s annual ‘movie issue’ Juergen Teller photographed an assortment of A-list stars with little or no makeup. And instead of looking like an UsWeekly special it’s really cool. Kristen Stewart is moody in an Isabel Marant leather dress, Naomi Watts dazzles the camera with a big Hollywood smile and Kerry Washington looks fresh-faced in a Burberry trench coat. Here’s a preview:

The full editorial is now online at wmagazine.com and also features Keira Knightley (with makeup), Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Marion Cotillard, Amy Adams, Rachel Weisz and Frieda Pinto. It’s definitely worth having a proper look!
