I Think You’ll Like… The Smashbox Cosmetics “Love Me” Collection

Just before Christmas I wrote about how excited I was to discover Smashbox Cosmetics’ Photo Finish Primer (which I’m still using every day), and I’ve just had a chance to play about with more of their products. Earlier this month Smashbox released a limited-edition collection in collaboration with New York street artist, Curtis Kulig. The “Love Me” products all feature Curtis’ iconic “Love Me” graffiti tag, and play with vivid, high-impact colours.

I was kindly given a few products to try and I have to say, my love affair with Smashbox is growing stronger by the day. I really, really like the “Love Me” collection. There are two eyeshadow palettes in the collection (“Admire Me” in pinks and browns and “Entice Me” in greys and blues), and each includes five richly pigmented colours. Immediately I was drawn to the golden neutral tones, as that’s my makeup comfort-zone, but I experimented with the “Entice Me” shades and was quite surprised by the results. I’ll definitely continue to use both colour palettes day-to-day.

The Smashbox “Love Me” collection is now available in Boots stores and online at boots.com in the UK. If you’re reading from the US you can find Smashbox Cosmetics at Sephora. Here are five of my favourite “Love Me” products, which I definitely recommend trying. Just think of it as an early Valentine’s gift to yourself…

Which is Your Favourite Jessica Chastain W Magazine Cover?

Jessica Chastain covers the January 2013 edition of W magazine. It’s the annual “Art Issue” and the 35-year-old actress appears on four individual covers – each designed by a leading artist. Jessica, as you can see, makes a wonderful “human canvas” and the four W covers are all so different. Take a look…

The Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama Accessories

I’m sure you’re all aware that Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama, have joined forces to create a limited-edition collection. The design collaboration – which includes leather-goods, ready-to-wear, shoes, accessories, watches and jewellery – launches this summer and is sure to be another cult hit for Louis Vuitton. I was treated to a preview of the collection yesterday, and am able to show you a couple of my favourites pieces ahead of the launch…
A colourful beach towel, OTT sunglasses and a pretty flat sandal
The dot cuffs are a must-have item. Gisele wears the collection on Vogue Brazil’s cover
Pretty bow-pumps, dotty bangles and a statement watch
Expect to see these scarves on every fashion editor in the world come September…
The first half of the Yayoi Kusama collection will hit Louis Vuitton boutiques on July 10th. The second half of the collaboration, featuring Kusama’s take on the iconic Vuitton monogram, will launch on August 24th, to coincide with the LV/Kusama six-week “take over” at Selfridges.
The collection is sure to be a massive hit, so make sure you start saving/planning your wish list now. It’s one design collaboration you won’t regret buying into… For more information on the relationship between Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama click HERE.

Testing Louis Vuitton’s Yayoi Kusama iPhone App

I switched from a BlackBerry to an iPhone at the beginning of the year and I’m still discovering the must-have iPhone apps. Obviously I’m an Instagram addict and I also love the IMDB app for impressing people with useless facts about celebrity birthdays (I share mine with Jackie Chan), but very few fashion apps have grabbed my attention. However, the Louis Vuitton “Kusama Studio” app sounded fun — and different — so I downloaded it to have a little play…
Similar to Instagram, you upload and image to the free app and it automatically creates a “Kusamarized” picture for you. You can chose between Kusama’s signature dots and waves and then share your photo on Twitter and Facebook. It’s a great way to interact with the brand.
Here’s my Yayoi Kusama polka dot portrait. I definitely think it could do with some more colour, so I’m going to test the app out on some brighter outfits. It’s a great way to waste time!
Have you downloaded the Louis Vuitton Yayoi Kusama iPhone app yet? Do you like the idea?

Louis Vuitton and The Hello Cube at Tate Modern

This afternoon I had a lovely mix of fashion and culture as I headed to Tate Modern to check out The Hello Cube, which is showing until Sunday 25th March as part of the Infinite Kusama project. The project is quite confusing, so here’s my best attempt at an explanation…
Marc Jacobs has been a fan of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama for a long time (you may remember she appeared in the Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton documentary with hundreds of polka dots). The Tate Modern is currently hosting a major retrospective of Kusama’s work, with Louis Vuitton as the exhibition sponsor, and together they’re searching for talented artists aged 16 to 25 to create work inspired by Kusama. The winner will travel to Tokyo to meet her.

The Hello Cube [above] is part of this activity, and was created by Hellicar & Lewis who were inspired by Kusama’s The Passing Winter. Anyone can interact with The Hello Cube: either by visiting the Tate and sticking your hand through the mirrored box to watch it appear in the artwork on the screen above, or if you’re not in London you can tweet a command to @TheHelloCube and it will appear on The Hello Cube automatically.

For example, if you tweet “@TheHelloCube next red sparkles” it will set off a sparkling red pattern in the cube and send a Twitpic back to you. The Hello Cube only knows colours, actions (flip, shake, swirl etc) and shapes but they’re encouraging anyone to have a go.
A fun yet rather bizarre project, no? And tomorrow a silent disco is being held at The Hello Cube, so it’s worth visiting and is free to attend. Will you be tweeting The Hello Cube?

Rooney Mara Covers Vogue US

The US Vogue team have had a great year. I’ve loved almost every 2011 cover, and November is yet another gem. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star, Rooney Mara, was photographed for the magazine by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggot. It’s Rooney’s debut Vogue cover and she looks looks strikingly beautiful in a black Ralph Lauren dress. Tonne Goodman styled the shoot and I think she got it spot on. The photos of Rooney posing in a lake, whilst modelling a Marchesa dress, are dreamy.

You can see the full editorial over at Vogue.com. The lake shots must have been inspired by Sir John Everett Millais’ Ophelia painting. A tricky image to recreate but Rooney looks incredible, so I’m sure this won’t be her only Vogue cover.
What do you make of Rooney Mara’s first ever US Vogue cover?
