Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting on the year that’s passed – in both a serious and frivolous way. On the frivolous end of the spectrum I’ve realised 2017 has been a great year for beauty discoveries.
My beauty collection has expanded, to accommodate so many new and exciting formulas (plus a few cult items I’ve only just discovered). Read on for my top favourites…
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – This cleansing balm has been around for ages, and has cult status amongst beauty junkies. But I only started using it this year, so I’m still in the “I can’t believe how brilliant this is” phase. The balm gently dissolves all makeup – even waterproof mascara. I follow up with another cleanser to remove dirt, but Take The Day Off is always the first part of my two-step cleansing routine!
Glossier Boy Brow – I’ve always been a bit weird about using brow pencils and powders. I have quite thick brows naturally, and feel a bit clownish when I fill them. Thankfully Glossier’s Boy Brow gel is the perfect solution. It grooms and adds a bit of colour to your brows, but the result is always very natural. I’ve now ditched all of my other brow products, and just use this baby.
Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup Foundation – I have to say, up until the launch of Double Wear Nude, I had never been a big fan of Estée Lauder’s foundations. But I truly adore Double Wear Nude. It provides powerful coverage (much like the original Double Wear formula), but the water-infused serum formula is much lighter on the skin. I’ve worn it almost every day since it arrived in the UK, this summer.
Charlotte Tilbury Instant Eye Palette – By now we all trust that every new product Charlotte Tilbury launches will be amazing! And the Instant Eye Palette is my favourite release of 2017. The neutral palette is divided into four looks – day, desk, date and disco – and honestly, it has everything you could ever need! The desk eye is my favourite look, but it’s easy to mix and match the shades depending on your mood.
Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray – The classic Moroccanoil treatment oil has been one of my hair essentials for years, and I recently started using their Dry Texture Spray as well. I have very fine, flat hair and this dry spray is great at creating texture. It gives a soft, gritty finish, which helps to produce a lifted, tousled look after using a curling wand. It also smells INCREDIBLE!
Glossier Balm Dotcom – Before trying Glossier’s Balm Dotcom I struggled to understand what all of the fuss could be about. Surely it was just a regular lip balm, right? Well, I’m still struggling to pinpoint exactly why it’s so special, but I also can’t get enough of the formula. It’s super-nourishing and soothing, plus all of the different flavours are addictive.
NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer – I was SO excited to try the new Soft Matte concealer formula from NARS, when it launched at the start of the year. And it’s now my new go-to for covering dark under-eye circles! It provides high-coverage, but doesn’t feel too heavy on the skin. The texture is easy to blend and work into the skin. And, as well as working wonders on dark circles, it’s also great at covering redness and spots. A true beauty essential, if ever there was one…
Molton Brown Russian Leather Bath & Shower Gel – Oh my goodness, does this Russian Leather bath and shower gel smell delightful?! It truly is the most deliciously sexy smell. A heady blend of vetiver, leather, tobacco, black tea and birch. That might all sound a bit heavy for a bath, but trust be when I say it’s the dream!
Tata Harper Clarifying Mask – This mask has saved my butt on many occasions, throughout the year. Whenever my skin is breaking out – or whenever I think it’s about to break out (after a long haul flight, for instance) – I slap this on for 15 minutes and it instantly calms any redness or blotchiness. The Clarifying Mask is expensive, but highly effective.
