My Style: Skipping Into Spring

Alice and Olivia Lip Print Cardigan Ella Gregory Coco's Tea Party

When I was about 13-years-old I started reading the Gossip Girl books by Cecily von Ziegesar (which, just so you know, are a million times better than the show was). Blair was my favourite character and I had a massive crush on Nate Archibald (who never got a good run of stories in the TV version). Anyway, eventually I grew up and realised nobody should aspire to be a spoilt, chain-smoking, bitchy Upper East Side princess. But I do still daydream about going to the Kiss on the Lips ball with Nathaniel Fitzwilliam Archibald.

And I know exactly what I’d wear: Alice + Olivia’s lip print cardigan with a black Oscar de la Renta ball gown. It would be magical.

However, in absence of Chace Crawford (and Oscar de la Renta) I’ve had to make do with a Zara skirt and jersey T-shirt. I wore this outfit last week, when we experienced a sudden burst of warm weather in London. Getting my legs out after months of skinny jeans and opaque tights was such a treat – and naturally I celebrated by skipping up and down the street!

What I Wore: Lip print cardigan by Alice + Olivia c/o | Grey T-shirt by EMU Australia c/o | Drape skirt by Zara TRF (you can buy the style in stripe and floral online) | Suede flats by Russell & Bromley c/o | Pashli handbag by 3.1 Phillip Lim | Necklaces by Claire’s and vintage

Outfit posts are still a little bit out of my comfort zone, and it feels awkward to just write about what I was wearing (“I chose this grey T-shirt because it’s really soft…” etc etc). But I would really like to bring this Zara skirt to your attention, because it was a total bargain at £12.99. It’s double-faced, so doesn’t become transparent and reveal your knickers, and the draped design is really flattering. I’ve just discovered it also comes in a floral print as well, so will definitely be adding that style to my wardrobe too.

Do you like Alice + Olivia’s lip print cardigan? How would you style it?

Thanks for the photos Holly!

  • The Style Check
  • Love your bib necklace! You’ve totally inspired me to check out the books. I only discovered Gossip Girl last fall, and I had so much fun furiously watching every single episode ala Netflix. Since I’ve missed it so much! The books are definitely on my radar now. I too love Nate, and I too think he got a bunch of dud storylines on the show. The two of you would be lovely together 🙂

I don’t understand why Nate had to be SO stupid on the show either. I mean, he’s not exactly a nuclear scientist in the books, but at least he had a couple of brain cells! haha

  • I lvoe your outfit posts, they’re always such a treat, love your style and your pics always look great! This outfit posts really does show off the surprisingly amazing weather we were treated to! XX
p.s. reallly wanna read the GG books but are they going to appeal to someone in their early 20s in the same way they appealed to a teenager? Saying that though…because i was feeling especially nostalgic over the weekend I bought three of my fave roald dahl books and i am giggling away through them in the same way i did when i was 6 so maybe… xx

Sometimes I re-read certain books from the series. They have definitely lost a bit of their shimmer now I’m older, but I do still love them. Maybe give the first two a go and see how you get on?
