9 Fun and Inexpensive Friendship Dates to Plan With Your BFF This Summer

9 Summer Friendship Dates

There’s so much pressure to have “The Best Summer Ever”. But what does that actually look like? And how do you plan a fun and exciting itinerary when you’re on a tight budget? I love to schedule friendship dates with my besties, where we’ll block out an entire day or afternoon to spend hanging out. And here are 9 inexpensive ideas perfect for summer…

1. Try a new fitness class. Joining a new fitness class can be daunting, so make the experience less awkward by going as a pair. Follow Gigi Hadid’s lead and try boxing, or give your booty a boost with a ballet-based workout.

2. Throw a pyjama party. Grab a bottle of rosé, some popcorn and watch back-to-back episodes of your favourite teen drama. Think Dawson’s Creek, Felicity, The O.C. and Laguna Beach.

3. Play tourist in your neighbourhood. Spend a day together exploring new corners of your hometown. It’s easy to get stuck in a routine, so broaden your horizons by discovering new coffee shops, parks, museums and boutiques.

4. Go on a double date. If you’re both single sign up to the Double dating app and match with other friendship pairs looking to go out on dates. It’s like Tinder, but less awkward because you have a wing woman in tow.

5. Master a new recipe. Save the money you would usually spend eating at your favourite restaurant and cook up a tasty feast at home instead. Try a recipe from the new Love & Lemons cookbook or Chrissy Teigen’s bestseller, Cravings.

6. Volunteer. Check out volunteering programmes in your area and donate some of your time to a good cause. If you’re both animal lovers you could help out at your local animal shelter, or just offer to walk an elderly neighbour’s dog.

7. Learn a new skill. If you’ve both been talking about learning a language or improving your photography skills, sign up to a nearby class or workshop and learn something new together. Your far more likely to stick to the commitment if you join with a friend.

8. Pack a picnic and head to your local park. You may not be able to afford a holiday in the sun this summer, but you can still catch some rays at home. So pack a luxe picnic and a stack of fashion magazines and spend the day at your local park.

9. Set a thrift store challenge. Instead of spending your Saturday shopping on the high street, head to your local thrift store or flea market and set yourselves a challenge. Each cap your spending at £20 and see who can come away with the best haul.
