People often ask me what my fashion pet peeves are, and for a long time I would roll out the same answer: blue eyeshadow and white shoes.
However, for the last 12-18 months white heels have been creeping back into the fashion conversation. Practically every A-list celebrity has been sighted wearing the Manolo Blahnik “BB” pumps in white, and almost every pair of white pointed-toe heels on Net-A-Porter is sold out completely or down to limited stock.
I tried to ignore the trend for as long as possible, but – as you may have noticed last week – I’ve finally fallen for the look and wore a pair of past-season Preen X ALDO RISE white heels in the PANDORA #MyRingsMyStyle campaign.
Luckily I wasn’t committing the white shoe fashion faux pas alone though… Both Elle Fanning and Angelina Jolie decided to wear white heels to Maleficent‘s London photocall, last week. And Victoria Beckham teamed her elegant Met Gala gown with a pair of matching white pumps too.
The Manolo Blahnik “BB” Pointy Toe Pump [below] is officially the shoe to be seen in; but if you’re working with a smaller budget try Topshop’s pointed toe courts or ASOS’ cheap and cheerful heels which resemble my ALDO RISE stilettos. I like pairing my white pumps with rolled-up jeans and statement jackets, but they’re actually surprisingly versatile and work well with a number of unexpected outfit combinations.
And if you have particularly pale skin like me, it might be an idea to apply a bit of fake tan before you slip into a pair of white pumps. I like to mix wash-off tan (like Rimmel London Sunshimmer Water Resistant Instant Tan) with my regular body lotion to get a subtle hint of colour.
Will you be wearing a pair of white pumps this summer? Or is the look still one your fashion pet peeves? Let me know…
