Beauty Boost: The Party Girl Edit

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette

It’s my birthday in less than a month, and so far I have planned absolutely nothing (although I did spend a good half an hour browsing the Patisserie Valerie website looking at potential cakes – I’m torn between the Mille-Feuilles St. Honore and the decadent Double Chocolate Dream Gateau). I’ve never been much of a party girl – preferring low-key dinners and drinks to big nights out – but, however I decide to celebrate this year, my birthday beauty look is sorted…

The BaByliss Curling Wand is the hair styling only tool I’m confident with, so I’ll create bouncy, tight curls and then spray some Bumble and bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish into the roots to give some extra volume and lift. It took me a while to give Dryspun a go, but once I did it was love at first spray. And I now reach for this rather than Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray, which says a lot.

Makeup-wise I’ll use Soap & Glory KICK ASS Instant Retouch Pressed Powder to keep my foundation in place and protect against shine, then I’ll go to town with the metallic shades in the new Smashbox Full Exposure Palette. The shades aren’t that strong or heavily pigmented, which is a shame, but for a dramatic eye I’ll layer up the darkest colours in the righthand corner until I get the desired result. Then, because it’s a special occasion, I’ll make the effort to apply Eylure Naturalites False Eyelashes. It’s such a fiddly process, but the tip is to cut them down to half/two-thirds of the size.

Finally, I’ll finish my birthday look with a coat of Chanel Glossimer and a spritz of AERIN Evening Rose eau de parfum. If you haven’t smelt Aerin Lauder’s fragrance range already it needs to become your mission for the week. You won’t regret it – I promise!

Also, if I’m wearing a backless dress or a halterneck, I’ll wear an Invisibra underneath. They’re completely strapless, so you just stick the cups on and clip them together at the front. It’s definitely a strange and unnatural concept, but it’s how celebrities manage wear barely-there designs on the red carpet and still keep their boobs lifted and in place. Learn more HERE.

P.S if you have any thoughts on the Mille-Feuilles St. Honore vs Double Chocolate Dream Gateau contest do let me know. I’m completely torn, and at this rate will have to have both (which, let’s face it, wouldn’t be a total tragedy).

Well the dream chocolate gateau looks the prettiest, but I think you should get both so you can try a slice of each to see which tastes better.

Go for the dream chocolate gateau if you’re planning to have guests over for cake time – it’ll make the better centrepiece for a table, and looks absolutely yummy too!
