Following on from last week’s post about my new mid-length haircut and failed dreams of long, Elle Macpherson waves, I wanted to introduce you to my new hair pin-up: Kate Mara.
Most of you will know Kate Mara as Zoe Barnes in House of Cards (and yes, she’s Rooney’s older sister). But over the last couple months she’s also become a bit of an accidental style icon. Not a day goes by when I don’t log onto Pinterest and find a picture of her practical, mid-legth hairstyle starring back at me.
Kate first cut her long locks into a blunt, shoulder length style last summer, and then dyed it blonde in the fall, after House of Cards finished shooting. It’s one of my favourite celebrity hairstyles at the moment, as it looks brilliant worn wavy, in an up-do and with a slick blow dry. She’s even tempting me to go a bit shorter next time I’m in the salon.
If you fancy copying Kate’s look here, are four products that work wonders on mid-length hair…
I was recently introduced to the BaByliss Brilliant Shine Ionic Brush (which India Knight raved about last weekend in The Sunday Times Style magazine). It’s a battery-operated flimsy-looking thing that promises to tame frizz and static. Now, I’ll be honest: when the PR introduced it to me I was dubious about the concept. But after putting it to the test I can confirm it’s actually pretty useful. It instantly smoothes your hair – almost making it look like you’ve just had a professional blow dry – and if you like Kate’s sleek hairstyle below it will definitely help you achieve that look. Plus it requires minimal skill, effort and time!
Also, if you’re still a bit behind on House of Cards I won’t spoil anything. But for those of you who have watched season two right though to the end… OMG.
Are you a fan of Kate Mara’s current hair style? What are your favourite hair products at the moment? As always, leave a comment and let me know…
