Sophia Webster Welcomes You to the Heartbreak Hotel

Sophia Webster London Fashion Week Fall 2014 5

Sophia Webster’s Autumn/Winter 2014 presentation at London Fashion Week was an experience not to be missed. When I interviewed Sophia the week before LFW she said to expect “Beverly Hills brats”, and once I stepped into her pop-up store in Covent Garden that reference suddenly became crystal clear…

In – what I assume was the store’s stock room – ten different scenes had been set up, and each housed models who were dressed in the AW14 accessories collection. As you entered the venue you reached the reception area of the Heartbreak Hotel (cue Whitney Houston on the stereo), where two models ignored the ringing phones and instead petted an adorable Chihuahua, who was dressed in a pink puffa jacket. It could easily have been a scene from The Simple Life.

And from there, the explosion of pop culture references continued as you walked around the set. One model posed in a bathtub – Pretty Woman style – displaying only her Sophia Webster heels and a customised CD walkman (which was no doubt playing Kiss by Prince). Whilst another model was too busy checking her reflection in a compact mirror to read the copy of Cheryl Vs Ashley: When Love Dies that was placed beside her. It was basically as if the movie Clueless had come to life.

As for the collection itself, it was classic Sophia Webster. The shoes were colourful, fun, girly and highly covetable. Expect to see them on the feet of every fashion industry insider come September. And Sophia’s signature speech-bubble clutch bags also deserve some attention –  the “Cinder-f***in-rella” design was my personal favourite.
