New York Fashion Week went by so quickly, and tomorrow the circus moves to London. If you missed the first Autumn/Winter 2014 roundup you can catch up here, and now it’s time for part two. Over the last four days we’ve seen everything from C3PO gowns to teddy bear chic knits, and these are the highlights…
I had mixed reactions to the Rodarte collection this season. I loved the first half of the show, which was packed with paper-bag-waist trousers, metallic coats and geek-chic turtleneck sweaters. But the Star Wars inspired finale looks failed to wow me. However you feel about the C3PO gown though, you can’t deny this was a memorable collection! I wonder if anyone will dare to wear the Star Wars gowns on the red carpet…
There’s only one way to describe the opening look at The Row‘s Fall 2014 presentation: teddy bear chic. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen presented a selection of oversized cashmere sweaters, which were paired with matching maxi skirts. The effect was dramatic, and it clearly isn’t going to be the easiest style to pull off, but it’s definitely a new way to approach knitwear. And doesn’t it look sooooo cosy?
We’ve seen some truly gorgeous makeup looks over the last seven days, and Tibi‘s fresh winter face was one of my favourites. The Bobbi Brown team kept things simple, opting for strong brows, softly-lined lids and red lipstick that was patted-down so it looked a few hours old. I’m going to have to try and recreate this look at home!
With frosty temperatures and snowy sidewalks to contend with, the front row have been staying warm in statement parkas and practical puffa jackets. Lucky magazine editor Eva Chen (below right) and Lucky’s executive fashion director, Alexis Bryan Morgan (below left), snuggled up at the Tommy Hilfiger show, on Monday. I love Eva’s green ensemble – definitely a look to copy for LFW.
There’s less than a month to go before the Academy Awards, and while the stars are busy campaigning in Hollywood, top designers are vying for their stylists’ attention in New York. Oscar de la Renta (below left) presented a seriously sexy black halterneck dress, which would be a great option for any actresses presenting at the Oscars. And I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these Marchesa gowns (below right) gets adapted for the big night. Perhaps for Sandra Bullock?
And, as expected, the J.Crew collection was filled with cool and wearable designs. I love Jenna Lyons’ latest take on double denim, and the burgundy puffa jacket/floral trouser combination really surprised me – it sounds so wrong, but looks so right! Which of these pieces have jumped to the top of your Autumn/Winter 2014 wish lists?
