Playing Truant From Day One of London Fashion Week

May Fair Hotel Valentine's Day

Did you all have a nice Valentine’s Day? As you probably know, London Fashion Week kicked off on Friday, and this season I’m staying at The May Fair Hotel (which is the Official Hotel for London Fashion Week*). I checked in on the 14th along with hordes of loved-up couples and lots of frazzled fashion industry folk straight off the red eye from New York, and then somehow managed to have the most unproductive day ever…

Typically, I don’t cover many shows on the first day of LFW – and this season I didn’t attend any at all. Instead I spent the day catching up with friends and relaxing at The May Fair. I would have felt guilty for slacking on the fashion front if the weather hadn’t been so disgusting – but playing truant this season was actually a lot of fun (and I believe it’s the reason live streaming was invented).

The Apartment (a cool hangout space for bloggers that pops up every LFW) is just down the road from The May Fair this season, so I ended up spending most of the morning there. Timberland hosted a customising workshop in the living room, with illustrator Joel Millerchip on hand to add custom graffiti to their classic boots. He designed a really unique pair for me, featuring portraits of my cat. Aren’t they amazing?

Then would have been a good time to head over to Somerset House and start focusing on the job at hand – covering the shows – but one look out the window quickly put me off that idea. So instead, myself and Reem from Five Five Fabulous indulged in afternoon tea at The May Fair Hotel. Would you rather navigate the cobbles of Somerset House in gale force winds or enjoy finger sandwiches and chocolate brownies? My point exactly…

I’m still thinking about the delicious smoked salmon and avocado sandwich. It was dreamy!

And to top off my lazy day, I then spent the evening curled up in bed with Netflix. I’ve only watched the first episode of House of Cards season two yet, so please don’t spoil anything if you’re ahead of me. But OMG. I have no words.

As Friday’s at LFW go, this was the best one yet. But it was back to work on Saturday morning, of course, so stay tuned for proper fashion-related LFW updates coming soon…

They’re from ASOS. I’ll be posting a full look soon with links to the specific style, but ASOS have loads of distressed jeans and the fit is amazing.
