It’s time to do a happy dance around your laptop, because Awards Season has officially begun! Last night the 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala took place in California, and the A-list were back on the red carpet, flexing their fashion muscles. No one made any dramatic style statements, but it was a strong start, with Julia Roberts in Gucci and Amy Adams wearing a halterneck Juan Carlos Obando dress (going for a ’70s vibe in honour of American Hustle, perhaps).
However, the two most notable looks belonged to Sandra Bullock and Lupita Nyong’o. Lupita, who stars in 12 Years a Slave, is officially the “one to watch” this season. She’s already proved she has flawless taste, and last night she stepped out in a fitted Elie Saab design. It’s slightly more subdued that her previous red carpet looks, but it shows she’s ready to play the Awards Season game, and I can’t wait to see what she wears next.
Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, went for an eye-catching Alex Perry design in hot pink and orange. I tend to dislike anything sheer with a lace overlay; but I’m overlooking the neckline on this dress because I love it when Sandra wears bright colours. Let’s hope this is the start of a colourful Awards Season for the Best Actress hopeful. (And let’s also hope everyone makes better footwear choices at the Golden Globes.)
Did you like the red carpet looks at last night’s Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala? And does anyone know which stylist Lupita Nyong’o is working with? I’m very curious…
