Here’s a fact that’s sure to terrify you (at least, it will do if you work in fashion)… New York Fashion Week is just five weeks away. I still haven’t looked through all of the Spring/Summer collections properly, but soon we’ll be thinking about Autumn/Winter again. It’s madness! And if that’s not enough, Pre Fall 2014 is currently in full swing, with lookbooks dropping left, right and centre. I repeat, it’s madness! How is anyone supposed to keep up?
To make life a little bit easier, I’ve picked out all of the Pre Fall trends you need to know about. And trust me, you do need to know about them. There are some great styling ideas here that will get you through the remainder of winter. And in most cases you won’t even need to go shopping, as the majority of Pre Fall 2014 trends focus around classic items you’ll already have hanging in your closet. Just take a look if you don’t believe me…
Statement-making brights are no longer reserved for the summer collections, and for Pre Fall 2014 Preen, Versace and Bottega Veneta are all going mad for zingy hues. There are no rules or limitations with this look: more is more and anything goes. I’m loving Preen’s zesty yellow knit and the green Versace coat, but you can still get plenty of milage out of your pastel pink AW13 jacket.
It’s time to dig out your camel coat again, because the classic piece was given a fresh update at Michael Kors [left and right] and Emporio Armani [centre]. Avoid the typical city slick styling, however, and save your camel coat for weekends by pairing it with printed or brightly coloured trousers, sneakers and slouchy knits. This time around it’s all about looking cool and comfy, rather than polished and poised.
If in doubt make it metallic. That seems to be the rule of thumb for Erdem, Burberry and 3.1 Phillip Lim, and who could argue with their design visions? Opt for shiny, futuristic outerwear, jewel-tone brocade fabrics, iridescent accessories and bronze or gold sportswear.
Mulberry may not be showing at London Fashion Week this February (they’ve yet to name a new Creative Director); but that doesn’t mean they’re taking a break from ready-to-wear. The stunning Pre Fall 2014 collection champions a super-chic colour palette of grey and nude. It’s very Carine Roitfeld, and I suggest you adopt the look now, before Kanye West cottons on and starts dressing Kim and North in these shades.
Which Pre Fall 2014 collections have caught your eye? And will you be adopting any of the trends featured above? Let me know…
