On Wednesday evening I attended an intimate dinner hosted by Net-A-Porter in celebration of the Peter Pilotto for Target collection. ‘Intimate’ fashion dinners are usually the same as ‘intimate’ celebrity weddings (i.e not very small at all). So in total about 60 or so editors, bloggers and stylists got an early introduction to the collection. I was really pleased to be one of them, as I’ve been excited about this collaboration since it was first announced. And what’s even better is the fact this Target collection will be available outside of the USA, with Net-A-Porter stocking the entire line.
After gaining a closer look at the collection here are five things I think you should know…
2. Quality needn’t be a worry. Obviously the fabrics and print placements aren’t as impressive as those used in Peter Pilotto’s mainline, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The fit-and-flare floral dress – which is perhaps the most recognisable piece in the collection – has a built-in net skirt to create volume and the zipper is so well positioned I actually thought it was a seam.
3. The most recognisable pieces are expected to be the most popular. So if you’d rather stand out from the crowd avoid the floral fit-and-flare dress, the strapless Iris print mini and the sweatshirts. Instead make a beeline for the tailored blazers, wrap-around skirts and fitted neoprene tops. They’re still in-keeping with Peter Pilotto’s signature look, but will be easier to mix and match with wardrobe basics for an outfit unique to you.
4. Net-A-Porter never reveal what time their sales will begin (even their press team are kept in the dark). So the Peter Pilotto for Target line could go live on the site at any time on February 9th. It’s a Sunday, so avoid a going out on Saturday nighht in order to wake up early and ready to shop!
5. Don’t forget about the swimwear! Buying a bikini in February may feel a little unnatural, but you’ll thank yourself come summer. This is the first time Peter Pilotto have produced swimwear, and they’re some of the strongest designs in the collection. My personal favourites are the Iris print one-piece, the red triangle bikini and the beach towel.
