The 2014 Grammy Awards Best Dressed: My Top Three

2014 Grammy Awards Red Carpet

I thought musicians were supposed to be the fashion daredevils. Hasn’t it always been the understanding that singer = bold and dramatic, whilst actress = glamorous and classic? Because that’s not what we saw on the Grammy Awards red carpet last night. Apart from Madonna arriving in a Ralph Lauren suit, the style on show was positively boring. And where were all the stars? Rihanna, J.Lo, Gaga and Miley all stayed at home, which left us with Katy Perry in a pouffy princess dress and not much else. But here are three red carpet looks I did like…

Madonna in Ralph Lauren: What can I say? Madonna rescued this red carpet. Whilst everyone else played in safe in sequin column dresses and bright minis, Madonna made a grand entrance in a show-stopping wide-leg tuxedo. Her adorable son David was her date – wearing a matching outfit, of course. Mark my words, this is the only 2014 Grammy Awards red carpet look anyone will remember by next year!

Taylor Swift in Gucci: The country superstar played it safe on the red carpet last night, sticking to a shimmering Gucci gown, diamond accessories and a soft ponytail. The dress is beautiful – and Taylor looked gorgeous in it – so this look instantly flew onto the Best Dressed list. However, it’s totally predictable. As much as I admire Taylor, I would like to see her mix it up a little from time to time. Do you agree?

Cyndi Lauper in Alexander McQueen: Cyndi Lauper is an unexpected addition to my Best Dressed list. But, like Madonna, she acted the part and gave us something to talk about. Skinny jeans usually have no place on the red carpet, but they work perfectly with the McQueen cape and statement necklace. It’s rebellious but still has a high-fashion edge. The only thing I’d change here are the shoes. I feel like a fierce, pointed-toe pump in a darker colour would have been more effective.

I also thought Beyoncé looked stunning in her lace Michael Costello dress, but because she skipped the red carpet and only posed inside the event I wasn’t able to get images of her in time for this post. However, even that was no match for the fabulous Osman jumpsuit she wore to the 2013 Grammy Awards…

Where you also a tad disappointed by the Grammy Awards red carpet last night? Who made it onto your Best Dressed list? And which stars’ looks failed to wow you? Let me know.

Taylor looks beautiful, but you’re right she does always go for the same ol’, same ol’ would be nice seeing her in something out of her comfort zone.
