The 2014 SAG Awards Best Dressed List

The 2014 SAG Awards took place in Los Angeles last night, and the red carpet was a bit hit and miss. There were way too many safe and forgettable dresses, a few faux pas and – thankfully – a small handful of beautiful gowns that jumped straight onto the Best Dressed lists. Here’s a look at my favourite red carpet looks…

Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi: Has Amy Adams always looked this good? I’ve been a big fan of her ever since Enchanted (I’m not embarrassed to admit I love that movie), but I’ve never paid that much attention to her style before. And lately she’s been killing it at every opportunity. At this rate I wouldn’t be at all surprised if her stylist, Cristina Ehrlich, tops The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 Most Powerful Stylists list for 2014!

Last night Amy wore an Antonio Berardi gown and managed to appeal to both the general, Daily-Mail-reading public, and the fash pack. That’s not an easy task, so I think she’s deserving of the Best Dressed crown. Do you agree?

Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci: Like Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong’o has topped every Best Dressed list so far this season. She consistently picks bold and flattering designs, and last night opted for a stunning turquoise Gucci dress. The simple shape is beautifully balanced by the floral collar, and I wasn’t even put off by her matching eye makeup (usually I hate blue eyeshadow). I bet every major fashion house is battling to dress Lupita for the Oscars. Especially after last night’s best supporting actress win…

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior: I wasn’t terribly keen on Jen’s Golden Globes dress (although I didn’t hate it), so it was a relief to she her back on top at the SAG Awards. Sure, I still wish she’s stop wearing Dior all the time and add some young designers into the mix, but you can’t fault this look. The column dress is really flattering on her figure, and the midnight blue sequins make a big impact without looking too try-hard. Plus, this is the best her hair has looked since she cut it short – I love it!

I also really rated Helen Mirren in Escada and Claire Danes in Vionnet. Claire rarely gets my fashion-pulse racing when she steps onto the red carpet, so I was pleasantly surprised by her look last night. Sadly Sandra Bullock’s Lanvin dress failed to wow me. It feels a bit like she’s losing style momentum, so let’s hope she gets her mojo back in time for the Oscars!

  • I loved all three of these…Also Emilia Clarke, Elisabeth Moss, Julie Bowen and Claire Danes. Overall, I think the fashion at the SAGs this year was better than the Globes. People looked great! <3
