Clothes I Want to Wear: Halston Heritage Pre-Spring 2014

Halston Heritage Pre-Spring 2014

When Harvey Weinstein, Tamara Mellon and Rachel Zoe joined forces to bring Halston back to the centre of fashion I had high hopes. I’m a huge fan of Halton’s work and that signature ’70s style, but sadly their efforts weren’t enough, and the label quickly hit hard times. Weinstein, Zoe and one-time creative director, Marios Schwab, all exited the brand in quick succession. And Sarah Jessica Parker is no longer associated with Halston Heritage either. (According to In My Shoes: A Memoir, Tamara Mellon still holds her shares in the label).

The mainline Halston collection has been absent from New York Fashion Week since Spring 2011, but Halston Heritage is still going strong. You may have forgotten all about the diffusion line – which is inspired by vintage Halston pieces – but it’s held onto key stockists like Net-A-Porter and appears to be selling well. In fact, it looks like the new CEO is scrapping Halston mainline altogether and focusing solely on the Heritage brand…

Which brings us to the Halston Heritage Pre-Spring 2014 collection… These designs are definitely worth some attention! I’ve gone gaga for the jodhpur-style skinny trousers in navy and marl grey, am desperate to see the midnight-blue strapless prom dress on the red carpet, and have fallen head-over-heels for the faux suede charcoal shirtdress.

Granted, none of these designs are breaking new ground. But you should never disregard the allure of simple, elegant clothes that you actually want to wear. If this is the new focus for Halston I literally can’t wait to see what comes next!
