Right now you could be forgiven for thinking I just sit around all day enjoying leisurely afternoon teas. Last week I was sampling the festive afternoon tea at Bond & Brook, and now it’s the turn of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired menu at One Aldwych hotel. Roald Dahl’s classic tale is currently playing on the West End, and One Aldwych have teamed up with Theatre Royal Drury Lane to create a spectacular dining experience.
As a chocolate fiend I was very excited about this afternoon tea, and it did not disappoint. Monica from The Elgin Avenue and I started off with the Cocktail Charlie, which was beautifully presented in a steaming teapot. We then enjoyed a delicious selection of finger sandwiches and savoury pastries (the caramelised onion and goat’s curd tart was a highlight) before working up to the main event: the sweets!
Now, if you don’t have a sweet tooth this probably isn’t the best tea for you. But for me it was heaven! I can’t really explain how tasty it was, so I’ll let the menu and the pictures below do the talking. The sweets included: a golden egg with vanilla cheesecake and mango, chocolate caramel milk, Eton mess, homemade candyfloss in mystery flavours (we didn’t guess either correctly), blueberry brioche, cocoa bean financier, and warm scones served with plum jam.
Afternoon tea at One Aldwych from £29.50 per person. To see the full Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired menu and book a table click here. And, on a scale of 1-10, how much are you craving chocolate after seeing these pictures?
