Effie Trinket Wears Alexander McQueen Spring 2011 in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

The countdown to the November release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is well and truly on, and yesterday Yahoo released a new still from the movie. As you can see, Effie Trinket (played by Elizabeth Banks) is dressed in a Alexander McQueen design. The Sarah Burton butterfly dress was part of the Spring/Summer 2011 collection, but didn’t appear on the runway with the matching headpiece. This isn’t the first time Effie has worn McQueen, and Catching Fire looks like it will be loaded with high fashion references – remember the Christopher Kane lookalike dress Katniss was pictured in?

The first trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has already been released, and it looks amazing – despite the fact I totally disagree with their casting of Finnick (who doesn’t actually appear in the trailer, but unfortunately isn’t Armie Hammer). Take a look if you haven’t seen it already:

And in more Hunger Games news (yes, I am obsessed!), Julianne Moore is rumoured to be joining the cast for the third instalment as President Coin. She’s definitely not who I expected, but it would be fantastic to see her take on the role!

Are you getting excited about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire? Are you pleased to see Effie wearing McQueen again?

YES! I am BEYOND excited for Catching Fire, it was my favorite book as I loved all the new characters and the arena and arena plot unbeknownst to Katniss!
Effie is killing it in McQueen, the house’s looks are quite fitting for capitol (and Effie) attire.
Hmm, I am a little skeptical and mehhhh about their casting choice for Finnick, and I agree Armie Hammer would have been a smashing choice. Sam Claflin will probably convince me, but the stupidest thing is that his height is bothering me.
AND a new trailer is coming out this Saturday through ComicCon!!!!!

His height is such a bother. I’ve seen him at events a couple of times and he’s around the same height as me (about 5’6). Apparently Armie didn’t want the part of Finnick, which is super annoying, as I think he was made to play it :(

Who made the headpiece? Philip Treacy for McQueen?

    • cocos_tea_party

I’m not sure if it’s a Treacy design or something the costume designer copied in his style. As the Philip Treacy McQueen headpieces usually tend to be a lot bigger than this one.

oh my goddddd, this looks amazing, I’m so excited! Effie looks amazing. I agree about Armie Hammer, though, he would have been my first choice for Finnick. x

she looks amazing in McQueen and it goes with her character perfectly. The funny thing about Finnick and who plays him is that there was this massive thing going on twitter for this actor from home and away to play finnick, i think it was started by a few fans and really gained popularity, in the end the actor’s girlfriend was supporting the entire thing, thought it was a bit weird. I just checked out the guy who plays finnick, he looks alright to me..it says he’s 6ft 2 on imdb? how weird that they got the height way off

I love this book, and since it’s some time in the future it looks like Effie has herself an AMAZING vintage wardrobe

OMG I can’t wait for it to be released. I’m trying not to look anything up so everything’s a bit of a surprise when it comes out but gaaash this was a good sneakpeek.
