Behind every red carpet dress there are at least four or five back-up options. They’re kept safe for last minute changes, fashion emergencies and, sometimes, are simply held hostage so no one else can wear them. Celebrities never talk about their back-up options – “Tonight I’m wearing [insert name of designer here] but I nearly wore [insert name of rival designer here]” – well, no one, that is, except Jennifer Lawrence.
Last night the 22-year-old Silver Linings Playbook actress accepted the award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical wearing Christain Dior Haute Couture. Up until now I haven’t been completely sold on their style union, but Jennifer did look gorgeous in the strapless red gown. And as the face of Miss Dior it wasn’t the only look offered to her; she told E!’s Giuliana Rancic the other lead contender was yellow, but the red dress won her over because “it fit”.
Doing a bit of detective work on Style.com, I’m guessing Jennifer’s back-up dress was either the long-sleeved Fall 2012 couture gown (which does have a ridiculously small waist) or a variation on the Spring 2013 drape top. You may wonder why any of this is important, to which I answer: Oscar predictions! It’s likely Jen will wear Dior again on February 24th, and now we can narrow down the possibilities. Personally, I think she’ll wear a look from the Spring 2013 Haute Couture collection, which shows in Paris at the end of the month. That, or a custom Raf Simons design…
Did you like Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior red carpet look, last night? Or do you wish she’d worn yellow instead?
