New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 Trend Watch: Printed Harem and Dhoti Pants

One of the first collections I checked on Style.com this morning was Altuzarra. It’s already one of my favourite collections to come out of New York, this season, and the printed chiffon harem pants tucked into leather boots instantly caught my eye. First of all this is something new – which is exciting because usually New York provides the wearable, sellable looks and London brings most of the fresh ideas – and secondly printed harem and dhoti pants in sheer chiffons and silks are shaping up to be one of New York’s key trends for Fall 2012.
The style was at its most dramatic at Altuzarra, Rag & Bone and Richard Chai Love (where the pants were super-slouchy); whilst Peter Som and Band of Outsiders’ offerings were a little more wearable. And at Helmut Lang the dhoti effect was created by layering print dresses over matching leggings. I’m sure we’ll see even more of this style as NYFW continues…
What do you make of this Autumn/Winter 2012 trend? Is it one you’ll be trying out?
