I very nearly bought a copy of Teen Vogue in Selfridges, last week. I haven’t read the magazine in years (it feels wrong as I’m not a teen any more) but I still have such fond memories of the mag. It’s nice to see Teen Vogue is still going strong, with a great November 2011 cover that features Alexa Chung. Alexa is a great choice of cover-girl, and the Paola Kudacki shot is fresh and pretty. It wouldn’t work as a cover shot for grown-up Vogue, but I imagine this issue will appeal to millions of teen girls around the world and will be a big seller. It’s the Alexa effect.
The accompanying editorial has a sixties theme and Alexa poses alongside a hilariously pouty male model on Brighton Beach. It instantly looked familiar, and then I remembered US Vogue’s Mert and Marcus September 2011 story, which featured Natalia Vodianova and Sam Riley in an almost identical pose.
Usually I’d find these similarities a bit of a turn-off, but it doesn’t bother me so much in this instance as the whole point of Teen Vogue is to make Vogue content more teen-friendly. I do prefer the original Natalia version though. Which sixties inspired beach shot do you like best? Are you a fan of Alexa’s cover?
